do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and see how many processes are running... if its more than say 40-ish... you've got some bloatware that could be removed... if you could get it down to say 30 processes, you'd see a difference. Go into Add/Remove programs and remove anything you don't want/didn't install. Also, make sure you follow the steps outlined here...

you would definitely be able to follow those instructions on the link... and don't only apply the hotfix... follow the other instructions about the registry and boot.ini. Even if you're a computer novice, you can't really mess up anything if you follow his instructions exactly. 66 running processes is quite high... try running this program... It is designed to show you all the OEM bloatware installed currently and give you the option to have the program remove it. It sometimes lists legit software such as productivity suites and what-not, but you'll recognize whats legit. Chances are, if you don't recognize it, you don't need it... But if you have a question about a piece, post its name here and I or someone else will give you advice on it... Good Luck...

have tryed the advice given here and still seems to be slow...have the prosses down to about 40 or so down from 66...ran cpuz and the proper cpu showes up but under CLOCKS shows core speed as 800 something and it jumps up to 1600 something every few seconds...sorry i dont have the exact numbers because its being used by someone and ill get it back later today..but wanted to know is the core speed suposed to remain the same???im thinking there may be a problem with the cpu being it shows differant core speed settings...any ideas...thanks

the core speed will jump from time to time...

Core 2 Duos seem to jump around a lot. My work PC is a T5500 and with Notebook Hardware Control installed, I can see the CPU speed real-time in the system tray... it jumps from 997MHz to 1.66GHz all the time. It's the processor deciding whether it really needs to be running full power or not. If you run something CPU-intensive, it will run constantly @ full CPU speed. If you've gotten your processes down to around 40-ish, things should have gotten snappier.

I don't really see why it's slow... One way to rule out a hardware problem would be to boot to "Safe Mode with Networking" by pressing F8 repeatedly as it is starting up and then selecting it from the menu that appears. Boot into that (if you want internet, it will have to be hardwired) and do whatever you were doing before and see if its still running slow. Typically it will run extremely fast in safe mode because almost nothing is loaded into memory and no processes but the bare essentials are running. If things seem fast and snappy in there, you know the problem is with a piece of software taking up all your resources or Windows itself. In that case, you could try digging some more (look for possible spyware/adware, viruses, pull up Ctrl-Alt-Del task manager and watch the "Processes" tab to see if anything periodically jumps up and takes a bunch of CPU power and then drops back down, etc.) or re-install Windows from scratch if you have a copy. As soon as I get my laptop, I intend to do a full format & re-install because I feel thats the only true way to get 100% of the hardware resources you paid for.
