    my P-7805u FX crashed

    my new 3 day old laptop crashed. It will not load it asks for the password and just has the curser arrow and a black screen with the hd light on doing something.. Called Gateway and they said muy OS is corrupted. They dont have recovery disc and are making me call back. I should have made a backup but went to system restore and tried it that way. It worked but the norton window wouldnt go away and it was blank. Guess i will go with an asus. I hope i can return it to bestbuy for a cheaper better computer. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. :mad: :mad: :mad:

    oh another thing when i hit the power button to turn it off it shows the desktop like it would normally for a second before it cuts off.

    I don't think you'll get a cheaper and better one....than this.
    Why not just re-install your OS and DL drivers from Gateway.

    Return it to Best Buy for another P-7805u FX, its a great laptop, you may have just got a bad one, it happens with any brand. You have 14 days to return or exchange it. Or use the F11 system restore, no biggy.

    Press Ctrl+F11 at bootup to do a full system recovery.
    See if it works.

    Yeah you can always return it. Just try to recover it first with Ctrl+F11 at bootup first if you want to :p

    You have to hit Ctrl and F11 at the same time at bootup, aka hold Ctrl and press F11 during the gateway logo screen.
    Possibly hold Ctrl and tap F11 over and over again until the recovery screen comes up

    ok when i saw the gateway logo i hit control f11 and held. Nothing happened but hard drive was loud and making noises. still have the black screen with the curser.

    Did you hold Control and tap F11 rapidly? Tap it until the recovery comes up, don't hold F11, just hold Control and tap F11 rapidly while holding Ctrl.

    i did that and bestbuy geek squad said just tap f11 no control.. beyond that they said the hard drive has failed. since i ordered it online and picked it up in the store they wont exchange and now i have to wait a week to see my money
