    i have a MX6436 Notebook
right...i had a virus, so i put in my gateway cd and tried reinstalling windows...with the whole formatting bit and everyting..the problem is that there are 3 processes that take place..the 1st where the cd saves all the setup files...then the restart prompt comes up...after restarting...it checks and installs the keyboard and the mouse and stuff...the next process is the installing of some 64 items...things like the microsoft .net framework...a whole bunch of other drivers..mcafee and stuff...
and then comes the xp welcome screen...
my problem is that setup installs the keyboard and all that stuff...but after restarting, i directly get the first time usage screen...the one with choose ur name...and computer description and all that...
the process where those 64 items are installed just doesnt come...
    what the hell?
i now have xp with no audio drivers.no wireless lan drivers...no modem drivers...no drivers for my ati radeon card...
    im in hell..please help...
ive already tried reinstalling 4 times...but each time the same **** happens...a reinstalled my notebook once before..it worked brilliantly that time...but all of these 4 times...it didnt..
    what do i do?
    help.!!!!

It sounds like your using a Gateway recovery CD, not an actual XP installation disc.

In your laptop packaging find the one that actually says "Windows XP Installation". Don't use the recovery CD as it installs all the junk software togeather with the Operating System.

Also, I don't understand the problem at all. Did you use this disc, whatever disc it is from Windows. ie: Boot up into Windows and THEN put the disc in or did you boot your computer from the BIOS, by NOT booting into Windows, but by booting the computer from the disc.

If you don't have the XP installation disc, then call gateway customer support and request it, or borrow one from someone. Get an XP Installation, NOT upgrade disc somehow, and then follow this guide step by step, very carefully.

It sounds like you do not have any Driver discs. All the drivers and how to install the drivers are here.

Download the drivers to your Hard Drive and put them on a USB stick or something BEFORE reformatting.

Also, I don't understand what your talking about the "64 items".

If I remember correctly one of the first things that your computer or instructions or something asks for you to do is make some sort of "drivers and applications" recovery disk so that you will have this.

Gateway can send you one with everything; they may charge you for it.

Also, you could try their website, which usually has a good bit on it, to try and get a lot of the drivers.

the main driver I always get is the network drivers. Once the network drivers are installed, you can at least get online to get the rest. GL
