My request is related to the following thread

I need the BIOS file of one of the laptops listed below. I didn't manage to find this file in Gateway's website. Can any one back his BIOS and send/ email me their BIOS file?

    MT3419, MT3421, MT3422, MT3423, MX3410, MX3412, MX3412, MX3414, and MX3422.

If you're willingto help, below is what you need to backup the BIOS file into a USB stick. This procedure is completely safe.
1- Backup any data you have in your USB stick.
2- Go to the following website and follow the tutorial.
3- Download this zip file. Extract 'Phlash.exe' from it and save it in your USB stick.
4- Restart your laptop. Enter the BIOS and set it to boot from the stick.
5- Boot into the USB stick and tape in the following:
    phlash /ro oldbios.rom
If this doesn't work then try this:
    phlash /ro=oldbios.rom

Please PM me if you can help... Thanks :)

Did you ever have any luck with this? I'm looking for one on Ebay just so that I can get a copy of the bios. I'm hoping that this will be my solution to a dual-core upgrade problem. These have the version 79.13 bios.

I haven't tried upgrade since the post. Thanks for the info regarding the bios number on the models I was looking for. Unfortunately I can't find this 79.13 BIOS file in Gateway's website. It is a shame as I have an AMD Turion TL60 that I can use for the upgrade.

    Ok.... I tried my best.

I tried the dos USB route and phlash or phlash16 generated errors in the dos mode. Couldn't figure out how to get it to export.

I then found Winphlash.exe and ran it in Windows 7.

In order to just backup the bios, one needed a bios files. So I had to use the 79.10 that's available.

It warned me that it was going to update my bios, but figured it was a generic warning and ignored the updating statement. I executed the command to continue with the backup, and the new rom said it was flashing to my Bios, (about had a heart attack) but it was too fast, no time to write. Then it went and did a bios file checking between the 79.10 and the 79.13 on my laptop. The compatibility was established and it continued on to completion making a back up of my Bios. The backup copy of 79.13 was the same size of the 79.10 (hence the reason why we needed the older version). The backing up process took about 10 secs and I could see it retrieving the data.

However one small problem, the backing up process wouldn't allow to save the backup as any other extension other than .bak.

This is the best I can do...the rest is up to you.

The file name is Bios.zip and is attached to this post.

    Good luck.

I'm in the same position; looking for 79.13. I have confirmed that it exists beyond any doubt, and Gateway absolutely will not give it up. I've inspected the BIOS posted above, and it appears to be genuine. Unfortunately, self-captured BIOS files are not "clean" enough to open in the Phoenix BIOS Editor (missing 17 bytes), so I can't verify anything beyond a proper Phoenix BIOS header.

Did you flash it? Any results?

yes let us know if you've managed to flash the bios with the 79.13 version. Also whether you could upgrade to a turion x2.

So that file definitely is 79.13, but backups are not the same as a clean BIOS, and I can't use it to flash or modify via phoenix bios tools (it's a few bits off). I've got a thread in over at bios-mods, hoping they can help out. Certainly looks possible. Will report back.

Ok so I got it flashed with 79.13. Had to do it in dos using plash16, but it took.

Unfortunately, 79.13 isn't the solution. There has to be some kind of lockout, since it didn't take my TL-52 (which I know is supported on this board).

Although the BIOS are the same, the ML3108 just won't accept a Turion X2. In my case the laptop was misbehaving even with a Turion with a single core such as the MK36. With the MK36 I could only use one memory slot.
It seems sadely that the upgrade cannot be done because of a hardware limitation :(

I thought I owe to update this thread. The ML3108b I posted about for the first time in 2008 was sold by the end of 2008. A couple of weeks ago I was in the hunt for a cheap laptop. Since I knew the ML3108b inside out I bought one. I also bought an MT3422 about a week ago. The MT3422 was bought for cheap as it is faulty. I bought it because it uses a Turion X2 TK53 CPU. I tied the TK53 on the ML3108b and I was greeted with the following error message: "FATAL ERROR !!! Please change CPU!!!"

For a long time I thought that I couldn't upgrade the ML3108 because of a BIOS limitation (a sort of a CPU white list). Now, I know that the ML3108b cannot be upgraded to a Turion X2 because of a hardware limitation.

So for all of you who are reading this thread, the ML3108b and any of its brothers which are sold with a Sempron CPU cannot be upgraded to a Turion X2.
