Hi, i got a gateway m-6862 (ati radeon 2600 xt) and it keeps freezing on me , i changed the paste that was on for some as5, but still as soon as i run an application after 5 mins the xcreen freezes and i cant do squat, so i'm always rebooting from the button (holding it down), even when i put my hand over the touchpad i can feel heat (dont know if that s normal or not).

how can i see my fan speed or modify it (if it will help) or would it be better to get a new fan ?
hope someone out there can help me

are you sure it is over heating? make sure you check temps. the cpu/gpu should be fine up to 100 degrees c. if you hit over 90 though you probably have a problem.

it could be a hard drive problem as well.

Google "HWMonitor" and download the right one for your computer (32 or 64-bit). Try and figure out what your maximum temperatures are when it freezes. I would think if it were overheating it would shut itself down to prevent damage, so I'm going to take a guess that's not it.

Any new programs installed since this has been happening? Do you have the right drivers installed? All updates?
