Okay so I have this 2 year old gateway laptop that doesn't charge the battery anymore. I bought a warranty for it from bestbuy. I took it in because the tip of the ac adapter broke off and was stuck in the laptop. Got that fixed then the battery would not charge at all. Even when left to charge for days at a time. Okay so we thought it could be the battery. called best buy, we received it like two days later. So the battery already had a 50% charge on it when it arrived. Then it drained. THen it wouldn't charge. So we took it up to Best buy to see if they could look at it again. The dumb squad guy tried turning it on and it didn't, cause it wasn't plugged in. Then he plugged it into a OEM gateway ac adapter and it said 100% charge. wtf. The replacement that bestbuy sent out was a generic. I asked the dumbsquad guy if we could get a OEM adapter cause that seems to resolve the issue he says no sorry sir we can't do that.wtf. So I'm wondering if the adapter is really the problem and how. They both look the same and the specs are the same too.

good question. I'll get back to you on that when i get home. I dont use it much. I never really liked the build quality that it had. It was pretty slow too. It was good enough for the price though.

could be the internal connector itself.. when its plugged in does it feel like there is a lot movement in the plug? if it feels lose at all see if you can move it into a position where the laptop battery light turns on... if you can move it in such a way that the batter light is on in one position and off in another then its a pretty safe bet its the internal connector.

Well I dropped it off at Bestbuy. They actually took it back for once. The nerdsquad rep wiggled the part where you plug it in, it had at least a quarter of an inch of play. I never noticed this. I guess this must be it. So is this a major repair. Or something cheap and easy. I was tracking it and it only lasted at the repair shop for a day. According to Geeksquads website its already on its way to my local bestbuy. I hope it's a major repair though. I don't really like this laptop anymore. This is the second time I have to take it to get something fixed. First time the ac plug got stuck in the laptop. Only the tip. I think theres this law in Florida that after the third repair you have the choice of getting a brand-new replacement. That would be sweet. If it does happen, I hope I can get an HP over a Gateway.
