Gateway MX3562 wouldn't charge, after trying all else I did this:

    New motherboard
    Transferred components from old motherboard
    Reassembled laptop
Plugged recently new battery into new charger and into new DC jack in laptop

    The result when turning on:

Blue light indicator on power switch comes on:
    DVD drive starts up briefly
Cooling fan starts to turn briefly
Power icon near touchpad comes on and stays on
HD icon near touchpad comes on briefly, however if I have a disc in the DVD drive, HD icon stays on

I left it to charge overnight. Everything is cold to the touch - battery, back of computer, battery charger. I re-disassembles down to bare motherboard and every thing looks good. Same result afterward though.

Hope I didn't leave anything important out.

Thanks from someone new to this site. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Pat

Maybe you need a new CPU?

Though be careful, don't put more money into this thing than it's worth. I mean it is an old system.

Yeah, I know it is old. It was given to me and I've already spent too much just trying to get it to charge the battery. I'm wondering if I didn't mess the CPU up when I put it on the new board. Static electricity maybe.

Put the old motherboard back and everything's good now. Except for the battery not charging. Good the new one on Ebay at about half the price of all the rest that were listed. Guess I know why.
