umm, i think u shud have followed instructions from ur manual not from ur friend.every paste is different. and u probably messed up on the application along with the heatsink. have u done cpu replacement before and u don't need to put thermal paste on the cpu. its already a very cool runnin cpu and try undervolting.

Those temps are fine for a T9300. 70-71c isnt bad at all.

You could have done abit better with the thermal paste application though.

    70-74 is normal
however, run it for few hours not minutes.

and usually there is no need to apply the heat sink as well, unless instructed by the manufacturer instructions. have in mind that the thermal paste application should be as thin as possible.

first time i did it, my temps would go to 90+ under 2 minutes, after reapplying it dropped 15c, however if your temps are normal no need to redo it.

i don't think that those temps are too high, but i'm not sure.

also it looks like you put a little too much thermal paste on, is that before putting the heatsink back on?

If you do find it getting too hot, next time only put a small bit of thermal paste on (as thin as you can get it), and only on one side, that way it won't be too thick.

Arctic silver 5 would have been the best choice. Also these sorts of paste have a 200 hour break-in time. So the temps should gradually cool down overtime

I think some people get carried away with the Thermal Paste. A little goes a long way. I used Tuniq TX-2 which was recommended to me over Arctic Silver and I only put on a small rice size amount and the Cpu is running cool as can be. About 30-32 at idle and never more then 60C after hours of Crysis gaming. Also did you tighten the screws in the proper sequence? 1-5? Also make sure you didn't loose the two springs opposite of each other on two of the heat sink screw downs.
