for a gaming laptop, the video card upgrade should be considered above other things imo. this current gen. based on the 8800 series, g94 or whatever its called, has gone on for the past 2 yrs right. man that's pathetic. i would wait to get at least the ati 48xx or nvidia 2xx seiries in notebook form.

You could get higher end than the 9800m but you will most likely spend quite a bit more too. These are essentially "budget" gaming laptop's/DTR's. For what this is capable of for again a budget system I would call it alot of things but pathetic is definately on the opposite end of that scale.

    I agee, TANWare -

"For the price" or "at this price point" is key when discussing the FX P78 series.

I don't believe, right now anyway, that we can do much better than the NVIDIA® GeForce® 9800M GTS Graphics with 1GB of GDDR3 Discrete Video Memory at this price point.

Also remember 4 gigs DDR3 @ 1066 with the PM45 chipset is begging to future proof with a CPU upgrade down the line. I jumped the gun and did a P9600...........

I tried the undervolt, was able to do 1.200v successfuly, but this cpu seems to run cool enough not to need it. For the video, as I'm not a gamer, I went with the 179.28's from nVidia as these were the drivers put out to combat the video chipset cooling issue and premature death syndrome from it.

I jumped the gun as instead of waiting for lower prices and faster CPU's I went ahead now. As did you too. No regrets as of yet but prices, availability and options are bound to improve down the line.........

Yeah, I might just pull the trigger. Maybe I'm just in withdrawal but selling my insp 9300 left a huge hole in my desk lol. I really just wanted to get something for it while I could. But hey, between my tax refund and the money I got from that sale, I'll still be ahead.

I have 4 laptops for sale for $935. Only posted 1 on ebay so far.
Edit: if your in the USA or Canada I can sell you one before the orig warranty goes out (its on a 90 day still, which means you can extend it for 1-3 years if you want) Outside the USA I won't pay shipping charges.

Why do we not need to for the 1920x1200 screen anymore exactly?
My friend is in the desert and wants a lappy so I did some research to see if I could find the 1920 res's anywhere.

So again, why do I need to stop looking for a 1920 res screen now?

Really it's just a matter of preference. In terms of gaming, it's easier to run games at faster frames with lower resolutions.

The thing to bear in mind about 1920x1200 vs 1440x900 is that the 1920 actually fully benefits from 1080p resolutions and higher. Blu-ray anybody?

So the general concensus is 1920x1200 for multimedia and Blu-ray instead of for gaming...unless you're plannin on upgrading that sucker...

    which i am. ;)

Because the 7801u is the same machine with a 1920 screen standard, for $50 more (newegg sale price).
I would have spent more than that in gas, sales tax, and the value of my time searching if I had found a 1920 7805 at BB.

This $1199 price from Newegg with free shipping is really a great deal.

Re the sales tax, though, Newegg does add it to orders shipping to CA, TN, and NJ - just in the FWIW department. I found that out the hard way a while ago when I assumed TigerDirect didn't charge sales tax.......except they do if you're a resident of FL, IL, and (I think), NC.

You saved me about 100 miles of driving, with no guarantee of a 1920.
And I have just recieved a tracking number.

Yeah the tax is a killer deal if BB doesn't drop the price back really, mine was 1120 bucks out the door when they were 1050, if i hadn't gotten it then I'd totally get the 7801 just to skip the driving, tax, and question of whether or not you'd get the 1920. As long as you're not in one of the taxable states for the egg its golden.
