Seems a simple problem but took two calls to Gateway before they could figure it out. Could not get sound from my Gateway laptop 64bit NV5214. The solution was simple. Just click on start, type in Sound in the search box, click on sound in the opened window which will enable you to select speakers as default. If you want to switch from speakers to a peripheral set of speakers or headphones then the setting needs to be changed from speakers to you would select headphones instead of speakers. simple but a problem if you don't know that. I went to other forums and got all sorts of solutions that did not work and interestingly it took Gateway help two times to solve the problem so thought I would send this out.
