hi guys. I want to get a cooler for my lappy and it seems that nc2000 isn't the best for every laptop. I was wondering if any of you fx series owners had suggestions for a good cooler for the fx series. I apologize if I am posting in the wrong section. I am a newbie to this forum and have learned a lot by reading the guides and your guys' posts, but still need a lot of guidance.
thanks guys

those are some awesome stats. thanks man. do you live in antarctica or something 22c is mad cool. lol. anyone else recommend the cryo. so far I have one for cryo.
thanks -
i think diablo just set a new record for temps for the p68xx series. From what I know, a majority of us (and i think mostly all of us) hover at around mid 30c idle in the mid 50c.
diablo- i see ur running 2x320gb raid0 and temps are freakin low- nice! besides notebook cooler, how are keeping ur lappy that cool? paste? lappy inside a sub-zero freezer? -
nc2000 works great for me

Undervolting the t9300 seems to do wonders for internal temps. I've heard as much as a 10-18 degree diffrence from some of the people i've spoken with. And the less heat the CPU gives off the less redisual heat the other componets get from the CPU.
As to coolers... i actually use a POS tagrus cooler that i picked up from office depot. It does a remarkable job in my opinion considering just about everyone that has used them say they suck so badly. But i can get 3-5 degrees shaved off my system using it. It could be that using a better cooler would help even more, but i'm quite happy with the cheap plastic thing that i have.
Though the next step in redoing my laptop table will intergrate the coolers componets into the board itself. I'm going to buy another one and then position the 4 fans (counter sunk into the wood with air vents) at the optimal positions to try to maximize the cooling effect. Should work out nicely (if i ever get home and actually get to work on it...ever)
My laptop table is heavy seeing as its made of oak, but its sturdy and i can work with it to make it lighter and better suited for the FX laptops. I'm going to place one fan directly under the GPU fan, the CPU fan, the CPU panel and the Hard drive panel. That sould get about as much fooling as you can get for this laptop. So if my dreams ever come true and i get home anytime soon (gotta love offshore oil and working in the middle of the ocean) i'm going to try to work on it a couple of days in my spare time. -

I use the NC2000 on my 100% stock P-6860 FX (stock CPU, no undervolting, etc.) At idle, cpu temp is -3 to -5 degrees. Playing "Company of Heroes" it's 8 to 10 degrees cooler (Celsius). GPU is about 5 degrees cooler during the game.
It fits the P-6860FX perfectly, barley any wider than the notebook itself. It feels very solid, and with the variable speed fans cranked all the way up, its still quieter than the notebook's fans so it's practically silent. -
:O Close to $60 to just make your laptop a few degrees cooler? What a waste of money.

I have the Targus notebook chill pad.... I don't really recommend it. but its not as bad as what reviewers at the best buy page claim it is. It only seems to cool what is situated atop its fans. In other words, the GPU remains the same while the CPU and Hard drive areas are noticeably cooler even on load.. according to HWMonitor that is.

Hmmm, it seems like the P-6860 FX does get hot while gaming...
What do you guys think of the Rosewill 7000W?

It even acts as a usb hub. -

As to the model... i'm really not sure, i got it for like 12 dollars at Office Depot, but for all of the bad reviews mine has held up like a champ. I know its sheer dumb luck more than likely, but it deffinatly works for me.
Its made of cheap plastic and only has two speeds, on or off, but mine runs completely silent (as in i cant hear it over the notebook running) and i have used it for HOURS and its still running along. I normally leave it on pretty much 24 hours a day while i'm at home, as i rarely turn off my laptop. But i've had no complaints even after at least 500 hours of pretty much constant use.
Again its probably dumb luck that its as good as it is... but i like it. -

i dont feel bad at all. feeling that cool air coming out the vents makes it worth it .also, so many other positives to this cooler as mentioned before. pricey? yes. worth it? yes
-
My vote is for the NXZT cryo still, amazing cooling, the chassis is a giant heat sink and a 4 port USB hub built in. Well worth the money I spent.
-
This is cheaper and triumphs the nc2000.

I've been eyeing this for quite some time. The Antec Notepal Cooler S or something.
http://www.amazon.com/Antec-NOTEBOO...?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1217384925&sr=8-47
It looks like it functions exactly like my old (and sadly discontinued) Pacific Breeze cooler. No need to worry about where the vents are placed since it just blows air underneath the entire laptop. Plus it's really cheap to boot. No tax and shipping cost from amazon since this is over 25 bucks. -
isn't the antec small for the laptop? do you know how effective it is in cooling?
right now it seems cryo or nc2000 are the ones people are recommending. any other 6860 owner have any suggestions? -

The Rosewell 7000W may be a great cooler, but you lose a USB port (since it doesn't have any and you use one of the 3 on your laptop to power it) and it doesn't cool any better than the other one according to the newegg reviews your sited (perhaps even less) but you do save $20?
It's a matter of preference I guess, but if I'm going to spend $1200 on a laptop, I'll spend an extra $20 to get a better cooler. But you go enjoy that $20.
I'm not going to say the NC2000 is the best cooler ever. It's the best cooler I've tried. It's also the only cooler I've tried. lol I'm just laughing at your "proof" and triumphs comment. -
Did you check the "Proof" link? -.-[/QUOTE]
I'm having a brain fart seeing how ''2'' consumer comments justify you supporting and trusting those testimonials in the links you provided.
there's not enough evidence to say whether the rosewill (whatver it's called... stupid iPhone and it's 1 window with no copy/paste) is better or not. it's just that the masses prefer zalman and that's not to say that zalman or any other brand is better as well. -
I have the Zalman NC2000. I think it works great and highly recommend it, as my overclocked GPU temps using the cooler are the same as they were at stock settings without the cooler. The thing I really noticed with this cooler was that when playing a game like Crysis, it really does a good job of keeping the GPU and HD cool.
-
I didn't buy the cooler. I don't plan on buying one unless the notebook is on the verge of overheating. Most of the people have no problems with the P-6860 FX without a cooler and play Crysis so a cooler is just optional. -
whoa didn't realize u took my comment as if it was intended to be in bold and caps. I apologize if u did. I was having a brain fart atm about the links.
besides my comment was neutral about coolers and don't know where you implemented world issues outta my comment. -
I still think that coolers are completely unnecessary unless you're overclocking your laptop or the manufacturer obviously doesn't know how to build a good, sturdy laptop. -
I'm with u on that... I just have my lappy raised up a bit using a ps3 case to increase air flow beneath... was using a deck of cards but stopped it cuz of too many drunk poker nights LOL
notebook cooler for 6860 fx
