That happens with nearly every ipod. Just wait it out, shouldn't be more than two minutes... Does the whole computer freeze or is it just itunes? In my experience it's solely been itunes.

Your Ipod is essentially an external drive - at least that's how your system sees it. Anytime you plug an Ipod or similar device into a USB/Mini-B port, the system initially tries to sync the data and run the system's AutoPlay function, depending on how its set. Ipods already have a lot of files to scan, if your resources are probably already strained for it to freeze that long -think about getting rid of any background processes you don't use all the time also.

Anti-Virus programs set to do an initial file scan on drive connect will also slow your system down. If your program is set for an autoscan of any new disks, turn it off.

Autoplay - you can shut down the Autoplay function for new drive connections by going to Control Panel/AutoPlay. Scroll down to Audio and Video files, if you have both on your Ipod. Select either No Action or Open Folder to view files to keep Vista from scanning every file on your Ipod once you plug it in.

Also, instead of just plugging it into a USB/Mini-b port, try opening your Media player first, then plugging it in. Most players have a Sync function that detects the Ipod when it's connected & works a lot faster, and if you disable the Autoplay function as well it should get rid of the problem you're having.
