I'm thinking to buy one of the nv58 series this week. But I'm a little worried about that odd long/narrow strip for touchpad buttons. ("Landing strip for a gnat", one review called it.)

For anyone who owns one of these - is it as awkward to use as it looks? Do you actually get used to it over time? Does it work okay once you adjust?

A lot of the reviews mentioned it but they probably don't use the computer long enough to get used to it.

Any other comments on the series? I saw a few comments in the review forum but not a lot of discussion by users here. I'm thinking of the Intel version, with 4G memory and 500G hard drive. It does seem like the best possible deal.

You get used to left clicking in a few days, right clicking will take longer. You have to hit on the ends of the bar, hitting closer to the middle wont depress the button. The owner is using a wireless usb mouse anyways so I set the alps touchpad to disable when usb mouse is plugged in. I usually use the touchpad so it bugged me, just like every other teeter-totter single click bar. Are they ordering these from AppleĀ® or what?

Other than that the power cord beep is very annoying. Perhaps a BIOS update in the future with the option to disable it? When I returned it to the owner I plugged it in and yelled "BEEP" and said see you can't even hear it.

The owner is using it for school, personal, and games (left4dead average 40 fps). I installed a custom version of xp 32-bit onto it and this laptop can basically do everything. Didn't have enough time with the laptop to get XP working in AHCI mode, but did make some progress.

Thanks for the input, that's helpful. A mouse isn't an option for me so I'd need to use the bar. The right-click matters since you can't tap instead, right?

I saw the thread about the beeping. Does sound annoying (but I likely wouldn't unplug that often). And I'm happy to stick with Vista so that's okay.

    Thanks again.

I just bought a nv52 a day ago which is similar to nv58. The clicking bar is kindy of awkward but I got used to it after about a day working with it go figure. But I do prefer my touchpad buttons on my MSI ex625 which is broken at the moment. The beep is not that bad to me. It would only be annoying if in a very quiet room or something.
