My issue is that i am getting some serious lags while playing Gears of war on with medium-high settings and 1280 x 800 resolution but my GPU is overclocked to 650/900 so apparently graphics is not the issue. i wanted to try decreasing the Shared memory so that i have more ram dedicated but apparently know one nows how to do that. i heard that i could always overclock the CPU and increase the multipliers and since I don't have the cash right now to upgrade my cpu right now apparently that is my only option. problem is - that is also locked in the bios as well. i got plenty of tools but all of them only SHOW that my BIOS is locked and that i can increase the multipliers (clockgen)

can anyone tell me how to perform at least 1 of the three following so that i can increase my gaming perfomance?

    1- Decrease shared memory
    2- Overclock the CPU

    thanks in advance :D

i would try a different set of drivers if you havent already . i played that game totally maxxed except for AA on my alienware 9750 before i got rid of it. it had dual 7950 gtxs and 2.0 proc and your machine should be able to handle it as well if not better then mine did . oh and turn off Direct x 10 if your using it in the options cause it makes no visual difference what so ever cause i play it on my desktop 8800 gtx quadcore and it just chews up fps .

Can't decrease the shared memory, its hard wired to use the memory if its needed. You cannot overclock the cpu in a laptop right now unless its a extreme processor. Try updating the drivers and running the game under dx9 if possible.

uhh i tried downloading the newest driver on Nvidia's website (169.25) but performance doesn't increase by that much on Gears of war. sure crysis runs smother with high settings on but in gears things just won't go that way

hmm bwhxeon, is the reason why the processor isn't overclockable simply becaus the bios is locked or is it because it is a limitation of the processor itself cuz according to a manual it is unlockable.

At this time, the bios is locked, and only the extreme processors are unlocked and able to be overclocked. As for the vid drivers, get them from www.laptopvideo2go.com , there are directions on the site as to downloading and installing, along with the modded inf file for the drivers.

ok i had those drivers already.. and it doesn't do much in terms of gears of war. i also have another question. when i tried installing vista ultimate the stupid recovery partition prevented me from doing it so i went back to home. but now that i am back at home the camera utility doesn't work. any ideas?

I definatiely disabled my virtual memory. Unless it's just lying to me I disabled it. Go "start" then "welcome center" then "show more details" then "advanced system settings" click "settings" by "performance" then "advanced" then you can enter into the virual memory settings.

virtual memory and shared video memory are two completely different things..... :)

if the bios is open, then you can make changes... if the bios is locked..then no it stays as it is.

there is no advantage in disabling virtual memory, run as many benchmarks as you like. if you can find any improvement i'll eat my hat.
