    1st post. I have a gateway notebook T1620 model 11 months old. It appears to overheat and then shuts down. I have cleaned it with air as directed. The power chord also gets very hot. I am aware of the problem with using it on my lap, so I have a stand. It also shuts down on a table. I have e mailed gateway (no help). Anyone have this problem.

    download hwmonitor, which will hopefully tell you what component is getting so hot, keep it open while using your computer and check to see which component temp is rising too high, then report that back here. the next step will be to see if the fan for that component is working. unfortunately, it will likely be a send-in-repair issue...

    yea Ive been getting the exact same problems, only thing is I have a P-7811FX, and its about 8 months old. But I havent been experiencing this problem until about 2-3 months ago. Ive downloaded HWMonitor and these are the temps I am getting:

    Core #0 = 79 C
    Core #1 = 83 C

    GPU Core = 69 C

    HDD = 45 C

    These temps are from me not doing anything with the laptop, just simply browsing online. Now I know just by looking at them that these are pretty hot temperatures, but is this supposedly normal for the laptop? Because like I said Im doing nothing with it, the Battery Plan is set to Balanced and all, could there be something wrong that it needs to be sent in for repairs?
