I have owned my fx-6831 for a little over a year now, and have loved it.
But i think its about time for cpu upgrade. I remember the talk on these forums about a year ago seemed to be all about the t8300/t9300. Are those still the top processors to choose from now?

I read somewhere lately about the p8600 as the next generation t8300, apparently though, while p8600 will work in p-6831, it is not completely completable.
The extra fsb is not taken advantage of and therefore has the exact performance as the older t8300.

    Is this true?
And if so, should i just buy the p8600 seeing as it is ~50 dollars cheaper on newegg?

    Thanks in advance

Short answer; T9300 if you got the bucks then the t8300. You would be happy with either ;) Search the 68xx threads for more input/choices.

No its not true. The p8600 is in no way compatible with yout 6831. It has a different pin out.

The t8300/t9300/t9500/x7800/x7900/x9000 is what you can place in there. The Montevina cpus will not work in the 68xx series of laptop (we use santa rosa and penryn)

if you were even thinking about getting the t8300.... rethink again and get a t9300... I got mine refurbished in practically mint condition quite a few months ago for even cheaper than a t8300... I just rechecked the site and they do not carry them anymore... but it still shouldnt stop you from looking at many other sites that could have the chip for cheap

I got my T9300 from eBay and it is a Q-Spec Engineering Sample. I have had ZERO issues with it. I don't see any of them out there now, I paid about $170. There is a T9500 Q4GG Q-Spec out there, for about $200 (if you search descriptions for "T9500 Q4GG" you will find it.. it's an 800Mhz FSB processor, I'm assuming it would work in the 6831FX.. maybe someone would know for sure.

OK Im confused now. I have the 6831fx which I thought it had the T5500 but I I ran CPUID and it says T5500 in one spot and T5450 in another. So I rebooted and turn on the post info screen and it says T5450 do I'm I guessing I have a socket P then and not Socket M. I glad I didn't win the bid on ebay for the T8300. So what upgrade chips can't I run? Please help

Your 6831 will take the t8300. Quite a few people have used them and are quite happy.

The upgrade CPU's you are generally looking for

    t8300
    t9300
    x7800
    x9000

    Those are guaranteed to work
