so my friend ignortantly threw my laptop bag off a table thinking it was empty but it wasnt. is i took it out and one of the screws came out. so i dissasembled the laptop (the most complicated disassembly ive ever been through) and got the screw and put it back in and all back together. but now the power led does not light up. everything else works fine but this led does not. does anyone know what to check? i also used computer duster to clean it all out.

Does the laptop work? If so I would say you dodged a bullet. Leave well enough alone. :)

well i im actually not worried about taking it apart again. i worked at a repair shop. the only thing i can think of is if gateway used that metallic tape as a conductor for the led so they could easily tell if the laptop was tamperd with or not.

When I took mine apart it took me a few times to get the power button working again. I was not putting the tape-type part correctly into the media bar. For me though, the power button just didn't work, although the media button next to it would turn it on.

It was actually a pretty easy fix, as I was just sticking the tape on the wrong side of the plastic holder. Or putting it wrong side up... I forget. But anyways, you might just need to play with it a bit, but its probably not actually broken.

First off, you should have smashed your friend's face with a frying pan for doing so (I would not let anyone come within 5 foot of my laptop!)

Secondly, as for the LED problem, if everything else works but the LED does not, this means that everything else MIGHT be fine but the LED lights are the one that took all the beating.

oh trust me if it wasnt illegal it would have hapened :) i paid 1600 for this thing. and you msunderstood. after the wreck everything worked including the lights. but there was a loose screw that came out inside of the latop. so i took it apart put the screw back in its place. after i took it apart the light stoped working.

EDIT we have the same laptop basically so its the orange light under the power button. its on its own circut board but the switch still works.

NO! There are two tapes. One larger one for most of the media bar, and the power button has it's own tiny piece of tape. If that's not connected though, I don't see how it could be working.... when mine wasn't connected properly, it wouldn't turn the machine on.
