Hi guys , well just got this thing running windows xp (finally) running the nvidia 179.48 driver, modded inf obv, and i thought, ooooh crysis on my 26inch tv, and use it for my 3ds work aswell, but no no no.

Connected throught the hdmi cable, and went to multiple display and clone display, and it went up, was all zoomed, so i changed the res to 1280x720 and it was worse.

Then i connected the vga and wola away it went 1280x720,and that was all good, but i wanted my hd set up.

Tried for ages fidling with it, never got it working, any ideas

Is your TV 720P or 1080P? That will tell you what res to run it at...if its 720P then 1366x768 if not then 1920x1080 ;)

Oh and I believe clone only works when the screens are the same resolution, if not they do like you described...

Yeah you don't want to clone, you want to switch to external only.

VGA is fine, unless you're going to be playing Blu-ray.

You probably would not notice the difference.

You don't want to extend either. You want to disable the laptop's LCD and use only the external.

well see doing that dosent work, i would think its automatic but no, and no resolution bloody works, i tried em all, its either 2 big and the screen scrolls, or to big and dosent scroll, or is way too small as if its like 4.3 rather than 16.9. I havent a clue what its doing, the vga just automaticly ajusts, wish the hdmi would just do that.

Dig up the manual for your TV. Locate the native resolution (probably 1366 x 768 as previously mentioned). Connect TV via HDMI. Launch nVidia Control Panel. Make certain nVidia sees both screens. Select Dual-View. On the side menu, select "change resolution". Select your TV. Adjust slider to TV's native resolution. Apply.

Make certain the TV is adjusted to apply no over/underscan (native resolution).

Don't forget to set your default audio to HDMI.

To play games on TV, go back to "setup multiple displays". #3 "select primary display" set to TV. Apply. Launch game on TV...

I did this as I was typing this tutorial and am now playing Age of Conan on my TV. You can leave the laptop open and the small screen active for email and such, although changing focus may minimize your game...

    OK...

For your system, Clone is a No-No! Do not clone. Clone requires both panels to have the same native resolution, and they don't!

It sounds as though you have Dual-View running ok (streching your desktop over two monitors at differing native resolutions). Are your desktop icons and Start bar showing up on the TV rather than the laptop? If properly configured, they should. If not, you're not there yet...

well i tried all the resolutions there, and it was either stretched off the tv, like i would have to scroll, but couldnt, and then there was way to small, and it was like letterboxed, and then extended works fine, just not if i want it as main monitor, sucks a little

What is the make/model of the TV? What is the resolution setting for each monitor/TV in the nVidia control panel? Is there not an exact match for the TV's resolution? If not, you can create a custom resolution to match the TV.
