Hey, I recently picked up a Gateway p-7805u FX laptop from a friend, because it had the common crash/black screen issue. I've that fixed (Permanently, I hope) with Riva Tuner, and so far the laptop has been great.

The P8400 seemed to be holding it back a bit, being only 2.26 ghz and 3mb of l2 cache. Since the T9550 was only $32, and had double the cache, I went ahead and bought one.

While the WEI score went up from 5.9 to 6.3 (I know that doesnt mean much), I cant see any increase in games (I usually play GTA IV, sometimes Skyrim), so I was wondering if overclocking this was possible. Heat isnt an issue as it runs fairly cool, and it usually sits on my desk, so battery life isnt an issue either.

I know there have been numerous threads on OCing this laptop, but so far all i've seen are people trying to OC the p8400, which apparently requires a hard mod. Is this processor any different? Is it overclockable?

    Thanks in advance!

No, only the x9100 is overclockable as a CPU. At 2.66 GHz you will find most games will not get more FPS just from a CPU increase. At this point you are much more GPU limited...............

    Alright, Good to know.

In my windows 2000 installation, (Yes, I have windows 2k, alongside 7, and XP 64 bit.) I had set Riva Tuner to low performance, and it apparently changed it to that setting in windows 7, too. I put it to performance 3D, and now have a 10-15 FPS increase from the old processor. I think It's fine the way it is. I get 25-35 FPS on high settings in GTA IV, which to me is pretty good.

This is off topic, but has anyone found/modded an audio driver to work with XP 64? That's all that is holding me back from using it.
