Have noticed this for about a month on occasion but it's so subtle that it goes unnoticed, I have a very slight flicker in the backlight which I assume is the inverter slowly dying. This laptop has lasted me almost 6 years without problems and considering it's age i'm not surprised I haven't had other issues. It's not a problem per se but I'm starting to think it's time for a new laptop as the power of this beast is showing its age. But could someone tell me the part number for the inverter as it looks like they are dead cheap on Ebay. A quick fix would prolong my use of this laptop if I get a replacement.

Omexis, I still use my P-7805u (6 years also) every day and so far no back-light problems. (Knock on wood) I do put it to sleep during the day when not in use and shut it off completely at night. Maybe that is saving my back-light a little. Had a key cap fall off the other day but two posters here helped me reinstall it.

If you get that inverter and it works, please post the part number again when you get it working so that we can record it as a good fix for back-light failure.

Actually be careful. If the light is totally out is could be the inverter or the actual single CFL light used. Flickering is usually the inverter but in rare cases could again be the CFL bulb. Good thing is it usually is a low cost part.
