the same thing happens on my 6860FX, i don't know how to fix it, maybe there is an update.

EDIT: i downloaded a driver/app from the gateway website for my 6860 and installed, it's fine now. i don't think it was an update tho, under device manager in the properties it says it's driver 6.2.218.524

Unless you have lots of light, you will want to use "night mode" in the properties window. This causes the camera to "integrate"; that is, take longer exposures. This in turn reduces the number of frames/second, making the video lag a small fraction of a second (or more, depending on available lighting).

These are CMoS cameras whose sensors cost around $5. They aren't very light sensitive when compared to the CCD sensors in digital photography cameras. More on par with cell phone cameras.

I'll need to check out this "night mode" feature.

I'm chatting away merrily on cam and then I move and it goes into some "dark mode" where you can still see the image but it's like the backlight has been turned off - super annoying

I'd say I'm happy with the general image quality of the camera - it's just this light issue that's a negative.

I normally get the full brightness back by reflecting light from the screen off a CD into the lens and that brings it back... :D

Not exactly great but it works...

p.s. I assume the webcam is the same in my P6860FX?
