I have a question if any of you have experienced this. I bought this laptop on 1/5 and got it on 1/8. worked fine for 2 days and then when i run it my screen goes completely white randomly sometimes soon as my pc loads and somtimes it doesn't happen for 30 mins to an hour. If i close the lcd and open it it works fine again, then a little while later does the same thing. I have hooked up another monitor to my laptop and when the laptop goes white the other monitor doesnt.

So i was figuring it mabye just the cable that connects to the lcd panel on the laptop. anyone experience this problem on this model laptop or anyother that can give any advice?

In my browsing I ran across a guy that was getting screen artifacts that would go away when he closed it and come back and slowly got worse, was just a loose cable. Being basically brand new though I dunno if you wanna mess around cracking the case to check the cable, but if you got a 1920x1200 unit and are leary of returning it for fear of a 1440x900 replacement... well.. Does it do it on an external monitor? If not its definately a connection problem with the laptop screen vs say a video card problem.

no, on the external monitor the picture is fine.. just the laptop monitor turns white. You can see windows behind the white overcast of what you was doin so im hoping it just the cable thats loose.

what's strange is that if im watching a movie or somthing and it happens and i tap the touchpad it will come back on. Im guessing one of the connection points must be under or near the touchpad..

Hmm. It could still be a defective panel or something else in which case I'd be heading back to the store. If they are capable then have them open it up and check the connection. If that doesn't fix the problem then just exchange it for a new one. If they aren't capable then I'd just exchange it or call Gateway. I'd just want to be sure that I got a WUXGA in return.

Either way, good luck with your rig.

its your laptops LCD. I had an issue similar to yours with one of my P6831 after numerous contacts with a gateway tech to resolve it they said I should send it in for repair. The box to send the laptop in came in 2 days but it was in repair status for 15 days before they shipped it back and took 4 days to get to me. so basically a 3 week turn around time. Good Luck.

It does sound like a poorly placed screen connector.....
If you feel adventurous, you might want to try to locate the connector your self and re-insert it into the board (under the media buttons/keyboard, I forget which).
