i just noticed my p-7805u has huge white screen blotch on half of the left side screen. this is only visible when it's on black screen while it's turned on and invisible when there's something going on screen. kinda look like foggy glass. is this normal or is it because of cold weather in michigan?
    will it go away? :(

I noticed my dads has the exact same problem, it's pretty large too. Not bright white, but it's splotchy, but only noticeable when looking at an angle and only when it's a black screen... I didn't mention it to him since he won't be able to take it back in for a return

But it is warm here, so I doubt it's from your cold weather. If you are within your exchange date of purchase I would say that if you are uncomfortable with it, you should try and get it exchanged for a different one. Although it may be a common problem... I wouldn't say it's a huge deal if it's only from an angle like the one I saw.

I took the advice of someone else on the forums. The screen isn’t burned in all the way so I was suggested to run a high res screen saver all day and it does seem better. Dunno maybe give it a shot.

I had the exact same problem on my 7811 with AUO 1920x1200 LCD. From the side, it had the shape of a ghost (kinda creepy), and you could only see it when the screen was completely black.

What I did find, though, is that I could make it go away by taking my cleaning cloth (a microfiber cloth) and simply swiping the screen! Poof, gone! I could make it come back (in a different shape) by cleaning my screen again, so it must have something to do with applying pressure to the screen.

Are your panels LG or AUO (just out of curiosity)? I haven't noticed it (nor have I tried to make it appear) on my 7805 with LG panel.

My Dad has a 7805, I didn't check which screen though. I thought almost all the 7805's had the LG screen though.

Most are LG, but plenty are AUO (see any of catttman's posts)... :D

a lot of people have this problem. even i do on my 7811. some have solved the problem by rubbing the screen with a dry cloth for a while, while screens off.
haven't tried it myself. too lazy and/or doesn't bother me much.

I have it on mine as well on the bottom row.

Its not a LCD issue (well it sorta is) but a backlighting issue where the lighting isn't getting uniformly distributed. So there is more light bleed coming through the LCD when it is suppose to block the light.

    Here's a better description of the problem -> http://www.behardware.com/articles/681-2/panels-that-are-produced-too-economically.html

Although I think its just our panels have less quality control than most which is why they have the splotch white patterns.

Assuming the backlight is rather uniform in brightness I guess what happens is that the liquid crystals aren't fullly twisting into a full "on" state so its not properly blocking all the white light in those sections.

so this mura effect is not fixable and not covered in warranty.
woah.. that really sux.. and if this thing happened to almost everyone who
got this computer, then there's just no point exchanging it to new one since
new one will have one too and i will have to waste 10 hours to set things up to my taste again(reformat, install fresh OS, install drivers, install programs etc). grrr.. crap.. i still can take my laptop to bestbuy and exchange but i just don't want to do it if new one is going to have same problem.

I don't think that's what's going on with what people are talking about here... I have that on my 6831FX, what that article you link to talks about. But still, it's usually pretty uniform across the entire screen when you look at it from a certain angle.

What I think a lot of people are talking about is a splotchy, goopy type whiteness that appears.

I think I may have found a solution. I saw this thread when it started but didn't have this problem at the time. Yesterday after cleaning my screen I noticed a white blotchy area on the right side of the screen during startup. It is only visible on a black or very dark screen. Since the problem started after cleaning my screen I thought that it had something to do with the issue.

Here's what I did to fix the problem:
I changed my desktop background to the gateway one that is pretty much all black so I could see the blotchy area and I used light pressure with a microfiber cloth and wiped it in different directions. I noticed that in some directions it caused the spot to go away and other directions caused it to reappear so I wiped in one direction, left to right, lightly and it all disappeared except for the very right side of the screen which required a wipe in a top to bottom direction. I followed that up with a light left to right wipe only on the blotchy spot that remained and it is now 100% gone.

Hopefully this will work for you as well.

argh, i am also having this problem. trouble is, the 14 day return limit just expired 2 days ago (best buy) as i wasn't able to open this up until the day after the retrun policy expired.

1900 screen, AUO, and at startup i noticed the white b lotch on the left side of the screen looking straight on. if i look from the left, its MUCH more noticable, and then i see another one smack in teh center.

wiping kind of works, but only gets rid of about 60% of it, no matter what directions i try.

when i can get most of it away, looking straight on there's about a 2x4 inch blotch upper right side that will run into movies and is noticable looking straight on when there's a balck or near black color.

its annoying, but i don't know what i can do - i wonder if best buy will accept this as defective? i also got thier 3 year Geek Squad warranty - maybe that will help.

all in all, i wonder how many panels have this problem? like i said, its only noticable on a black or dark blue color.

    any other solutions?

if you got the Geek Squad warranty then bring it in and see what they say. It's worth a shot if you are unhappy with it.

since it seems this affect both the lg and auo im thinking maybe something on the backside of the lid is pushing on the back of the display causing the bright area. if you take a raw lcd and flex it a bit either foward or backwards you will see this type of problem or maybe the lid is crooked in one way or another? can anyone that has the issue take off the back lid and see if it still there? then maybe actually remove the panel from the hinges and see the same thing? this may not at all be the problem but i have seen this in a few compal fl92's where the one hinge was causing the screen to flex and the left side had a bright area that went away when i removed the panel itself then i carefull remounted it and the problem went away.

also maybe you could try gently to give the lid a easy twist one way or another and see if that area changes in brightness.

    just a thought

Well, Mine has an AOU screen, was about to send it in for this issue to the repair depot until I saw the 1920x1200 screen was not correct, figured I'd try the microfiber cloth, & it fixed my issue, the entire left side of the screen had a white blotch on it, it was even viewable from straight on with a black background, but it's no longer there. I;m glad I found this forum first by googling, because I bet I would have gotten a 1440x900 replacement screen. :D

I have this too. I notice sometimes that windows that were in the same spot as the splotch leave some kind of shadow image in the splotch. I don't worry about it. If I don't want to see it, I won't have a black desktop.

I got the demo model, who knows how long it was sitting there, but I had a big white ghost blot in the whole upper left quadrant.

After a week of thinking my demo a burned in screen and not fixable, I did what others had did and applied some pressure, and it went away for a bit... then i rubbed it and pushed it to the right side.

Think of it as an air bubble stuck underneath the screen, and you need to push it out the edge of the screen to let it escape.

I have a small blotch on my screen at one side it appears like some kind of moisture has got on the inside of the screen glass, its definatly not on the front of the glass. Wiping with a cloth has no effect to it, its most definatly on the inside.
It may be different to what you are all talking about though becuase mine is most visible against a white screen background, I was wondering is it possible for moisture to get inside a laptop screen and cause blotches like this ?

So you got a replacement and everything is working fine (no blotches period) ? Im debating sending mine back to get a perfect screen but Im not sure they will notice my white blotch from a weird angle. how long did it take to get back?

I received by refurb 7805-u from Tigerdirect. I got an AOU 1920x1200 screen and it had the "white blotch" on a black screen. I found this thread and tried the microfiber wipe/spread method and it's resolved it 95%. The 5% is slightly there when looking at the screen at an angle. It used to be mostly when looking at the screen straight on. Now no white blotch when looking at it straight on. Woohoo!

From the first day I opened my P-7801u, I've noticed white blotches all over my screen. There would be certain parts on my (white) screen that is whiter than others. It isn't very noticable when playing games but it is noticable as I am typing this on the background of this forum.

The white blotch keeps coming back so I'm sending it back to Tigerdirect and getting it replaced. I hope I get a 1920 screen but if I don't it's still a GREAT machine.
