Ok I've been reading some 5-7 yo threads here about this, but idk the current state of SSD tech, or the buss standard etc that the mini PCIe slot in the p-7811fx uses vs the 2.5" bay connectors.
Has anyone used mini PCIe slot for a BOOT SSD that fits it? and if so, can it perform better than a 2.5 SSD in a drive bay? (would it then be running on PCIe 'directly' (whatever that aspect is that beats SSD on SATA) or just the same or worse than SATA at best.) ? Yes I know I should just go get a 2.5 SSD, and I'm 99% that's the right thing to do.. but the 1% leaves me making this post lol.

All good questions but I don't know of anyone that has installed a SSD in this model. Maybe someone reading this post that has done it will respond. Seems I read somewhere that some models of SSD's would not work in this computer.

thanks, yeah, it didn't even occur to me that even just a 2.5 SSD install might be an issue. If I use a 2.5, it will be a Samsung 850 evo. If anyone's used that family of drives in similar lappy please tell about it. Thanks.

I am using a Samsung 500GB SSD in a 2.5" bay as my boot drive with Win 7. Boots very fast.

As for the mini PCIe slot... if memory serves, there were some small (and expensive) Intel SSDs that were difficult to find and could be configured as a sort of drive cache with the Intel drivers. However, the BIOS will not recognize it as a boot drive.

Right, the pcie slot devices will not boot. 8GB memory though is tricky as not all memory will work even those advertised as the same speed etc.. The more modern and higher density chips are the ones that usually cause issues.
