So wth? my new p172sfx just overheated while playing assassins creed. Anybody else have this issue with this computer? I just got this comp like a week ago, and I'm otherwise very happy with it, but I'm hoping this isn't something that will be happening a lot, or that can be fixed. any suggestions?

Hey guys, I had it on my lap, so it's possible the vents beneath it were possibly blocked. Do you think that would have been enough? It basically just shut down,(no blue screen thank god) The part which seemed really hot was to my far left of the computer, right under the power button.

I'll get that temp app, and post that soon.

vent covered = heat not dissipated/heat build up = CRASH

Exactly, Assassin's Creed gives any system a workout. I had the same thing happen to me until I moved from a tablecloth covered dinner table to an actual desk. Also, remember to save your games frequently. I save them to a separate folder on a separate drive after I play a round or two. I don't want to start from the beginning again. ;)

yea dont EVER play on battery with the 172 s fx, something heats up to 98C when i do that, with the notebook plugged in there are no temperature problems (the processor gets up to 80, but most of the time its in the 70s, i guess thats ok)

makes a lot of sense...my battery would be hotter than the cpu.... i would have to plug it back in to get it to come back on.

Yeah,I think the guy who said that it was probably the vent being plugged was right. I've been testing it by running creed at the same time as maya and other things just to give it a good run and it hasn't crashed again....pheeww.. ;D

Just avoid gaming on your lap, bed or any surface that might conform to the bottom of your laptop. You shouldn't be overheating now.
