completely shuts off.

is it plugged in while gaming ?
what temps are you getting ? -
Yeah, its helpful if we can get the temps of your system.
My hunch is that the GPU or CPU is getting so hot that the system shuts itself off to prevent hardware failure. But it maybe something else (viruses or whatnot) but that's just a hunch -
its is plug in on the high performance an the temp when i start playing is at about 125 F but i felt the side vent an it was nowhere near as hot as it gets so my guess is it goes a lot higher im gonna clean install vista tomorrow see if maybe its a virus. can somebody tell me whats the most stable an best running video card driver? out right now?

We're having the exact same problem with ours. Gateway support is completely useless - just keep saying to download the current drivers from their site. We've used every driver NVidia offered since the computer was made.
Problem only occurs when the wife plays WoW. System shuts down in 5 - 10 minutes.
Is there a way to determine precisely what the issue is? It runs really hot so I'm assuming it's related to heat somewhere but I'd like to get specific so I can get past the T1 Gateway support and maybe talk with someone who knows what a motherboard is.

Thanks for responding.
Took it apart as much as I dared to clean last week and many times in the past couple of months. Dust/debris is not the issue. -

Can you down load HWMoniter and tell me what your starting temps and max temps are?
Cleaning note. These laptops are pretty bad about getting dust stuck inside the fans so a Q-yim run up inside can sometimes find some pretty nasty dust bunnies
(you might have done this but i'm just posting it as a general tip)
WoW shouldnt hurt the 6831 any. THe 1.6gHz CPU will be a little underpowered but the 8800GTS will destory WoW. -
Thanks for the responses.
I actually am just going to take it to a local tech and see what he says. My wife watched 6 hours of streaming video straight last night without any crash or excessive heat issue so who knows what's going on.
p6831 randomly shuts off while playing sacred 2.
