Hi people,
For those wandering if they should pull off the GOW sticker:
The sticker comes off easily. But I thinks its better to do it when the laptop is a bit hot, like after gaming for 1-2 hours.
If you pull it nice and slowly, the sticker will not be damaged.
There was almost no residu, I just used toiletpaper and a few drops of water (yes, water thats flows out of the kitchen tap) to clean it up. After that, use a soft cotton towel to shine it up.
The laptop looks more classy now![]()
Maybe some of you have noticed, I still didnt remove the plastics that covers the hinges and the lower grey piece surrounding the keyboard (lol). After removing the GOW sticker those shouldnt be too hard![]()
Summary
- let the laptop run hot before removing
- pull the sticker slowly, just take your time
- the sticker is in perfect conditon
- residu can be cleaned easily
- the notebook looks more classy now
Enjoy the pics.

you can always use hair fan to do that
-
Why would you want to keep it though unless you want to sell it again? That's the only thing I could think of.
-
Im not planning on keeping this thing for a lifetime. Absolute max is 3 years.
I think in about 1.5 - 2 years ill be needing a faster videocard.
Everything will be in mint condition + the screen upgrade, no scratches and sticker -
i pulled mine off a week ago, but only cause i hit the corner with my fingernail and it started peeling.i like it better without the sticker tho.
-
you can hope for 500-600 then
-
-
don't lowball the dude. that's just not cool.
yeah the refurb's sold for 600 but that's a one time shot thing. NO WAY it's gonna be less than 500 in even 2 years from now. It will keep its value. The laptop is already a great machine for the price. Stooping the price any lower is highway robbery. -
no,i mean after a year!and nirvana, please change your avatar,it makes me want to kill myself!switch back to hot girls
-
and why should it keep its value?
-
Unfortunately, computer hardware doesn't keep it's value very well... Sager notebooks from a year or two ago with older video cards drop like 50%. But I don't think these Gateway's will be the same, since they are already so cheap. If in 2 years the 8800m GTS is still a decent mid-range card (unfortunately, with the new desktop video cards, it already IS a mid-range card), I would say you could still sell it for 500-600.
-
You can't compare notebook cards to desktop cards. Look at it this way-
7900's and 7950's from the Dell's and Alienware's are still holding up today. When you purchase a "high-end" card from a series, it stays in the running for a few years.
But yes, after 2 or so years... I'm not gonna bank on more than $400-$500. -
No, they're not directly comparable, but still, people who have older notebooks with 7900m video cards, even if the rest of the laptop is decent or even high-end, WUXGA, dual core, lots of ram, etc, I believe can still have trouble for selling it for more than $1000 dollars, if that. It's not just because there is newer video cards out for laptops that are a lot better, but computers like this Gateway which come close or are even cheaper used than these laptops.
These people probably paid $2000+ dollars, and sometimes not even more than a year ago. Now they can barely get $1000 for them. But that's why I was saying that if you buy cheaper, such as a P-6831FX, then you don't lose nearly as much money as if you bought a $3000 Sager. It's the problem with computer technology
Edit: I was just making the comparison that the new desktop video cards are a big leap forward again, making these video cards look mid-range, but it's true, the 8800m GTS is still a high-end laptop card. -
-
That's busty...............
-
-
thank you very much
-
I never said that I was hoping to sell it for a lot of cash.
Even if you have an Alienware M17x now with a lot of scratches and cracks, you wont find good money for it.
If you put a fast cpu in the p6831fx it will run fine 2 years from now. The bottleneck will be the gpu.
As for the aging of hardware, SDRAM is expensive as hell
Oh by the way, the thread is about removing the sticker ... -
great guide...LOL... i had an avatar just like nirvana's but one of the mod's here told me to change it since it was too much "skin". now im sad.......
-
I just peeled my sticker off the day I bought it. It came off easily and left no residue. My P-6860 will sell for $5000 two years from now. Everything I own appreciates in value.
-
Well, I bought my old XPS Gen 2 from DELL like over 3 years ago. Bought it for $3700 ($2300 after 40% off coupon, and don't do the math and complain to me that numbers aren't matching up, just approximate). Sold it this Feb on ebay for $900 and picked this baby up. I miss the fancy LED's but in every other department, this laptop is an upgrade. MUCH brighter screen, larger HD, man, I don't feel like listing it. Only complain I have is that the XPS had much less flex.
In any case, if this laptop can sell for half the price in 2-3 years, that'd be quite a good deal since we didn't spend much to begin with. -
Yea. The lights are really the only thing that has me lusting after the high-end XPS series. They look pretty hot. I also liked the silver back on the Gen 2's.

"Oh God... it's a Katy Kuereck!" (Can't spell it to save my life) -
LOL! Its 2 "courics" in size!

-
I peeled my sticker off on the first day I got my laptop.
-
Courics. Hmm, thanks for that. -
Its downloading from Steam as we speak.
-
Oh, I thought Dtwn was asking if we were done joking around. Yeah, I dropped out of CoD4 after 3 rounds. Those guys were getting 800 points a round, and I was getting around 80. Owned.
-
-
Man... no kidding. Well, the other guys in the server were ridiculous. None of us could get it going.
Maybe after I left the blew up , but it wasn't working for me! -
lol, so basically all 3 of you got your ass handed eh? lol
Installing Steam. lol -
As far as I know. I know I for sure did.
-
The sticker came off pretty easy from my machine as well without leaving any marks.
