hey guys i've been using the hwmonitor program recommended on here. I've yet to see above 70 C on my gpu but tonight after a couple hours of crysis on high output to a TV, it shows a max of 74 C. IDK if it spiked there or was hovering. The game was smooth and seamless the whole time...

At what point is it too hot for the GPU??

oh- no cooler, on a shelf so no blocked vents and no overclocking on my lappy...

    Thanks

I don't think that is too hot for playing crysis. You could try cleaning the vents using compressed air though just in case you've picked up some dust in the heatsinks. My GPU runs fine at 94C max, I used to get 100C but then I replaced the thermal paste on the heatpipe/GPU. My laptop is known to get hot and according to nVidia should not cause a problem unless it gets to 127C at which point it just stops working anyway to prevent overheat damage. ?Keep an eye on it over the next few days. If it increases much more you might want to see if you've got a blocked heatsink, its amazing how fast they get clogged up, even if you think there is no dust or muck getting in.

74C is completely normal for 8800m

also the 169 GPU driver that came with the model are notorious for high temp. if you haven't changed it, try the 174.74 or 175 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. HWM shows about 10-15 degree decrease on mine

I use a belkin cooler from Best Buy. Works well- very quiet, no AC needed
