Been reading around here for a long time and ordered a t9900 for my 7805, it should get here any day. I am getting a little worried about the upgrade. I know my way around a computer, but it has been a few years since I made any major upgrades, and it was never on a laptop.
Forgive me for my lack of knowledge. I have read around, but I want to make sure I am right before I start this process.
The nuts and bolts of the upgrade does not overly scare me, I ordered good thermal compound, and reviewed the install process.
Once installed, what is the process of firing the computer up. I know I have to go to device manger and remove both cpu entries, and reboot. Anything else?
My bios is date 9/17/2008, does it need updating?
I have seen talk of under volting this CPU, is that something I need to do?
I plan on giving a good dust cleaning once I have it open.
I do game at times for 4 to 5 hours, how much attention do I need to give over heating?
I use Hwmonitor to view heat issues, what ranges should I be within?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Can't wait to get this up and running.
Thanks for all the good info I have already seen.

if you plan to run prime95 or other folding type app the undevolting is a good consideration. Normally you would be fiine fofr every day use.
for the first day or two run HDMonitor in the background to be sure how it runs
it may see the new cpu and put the drivers there, if not remove the old and reboot -
No plans for prime95. What about gaming for several hours at a time, is temp going to be a issue?
Thanks -
it shouldn't be. in a worst case if a problem arises you can always undervolt.............

Worth updating to Kravis' dual-IDA modded P7805u bios. You could run the T9900-3.06 at 3.2Ghz then. Worth perusing Has anyone successfully overclocked p7805u CPU? - Page 22 if wanting to go further.

Just a update, ran Prime95 for 1 1/2 hours, core temps ran up to 67c and within a few minutes leveled off to 62c and pretty much stayed there.
The mainboard temps ran up to 83c and about the same as the cores dropped off, the mainboard leveled off to 75c.
Can anyone tell me how this rates?
