My gpu running furmark for about 30mins is at 96c! i've tried running 4 different drivers and nothing seems to work. Ive ran the stock drivers from gateway, 185.81, 185.85 and now im running DOX 185.68.

Im a novice when it comes to this kind of stuff, but could i possibly need to apply thermal paste to my gpu?

any and all input would be greatly appreciated! i really dont want to send this laptop back to TD after paying 700bucks! it was a steal!

have you made sure that the vents/fans are cleared of dust?

    if so, then you should:
    - make sure to use it with a good notebook cooler
    - probably re-apply thermal compound.

yeah i've checked the vents. Is reapplying thermal paste a difficult process? other than removing that panel to access the video card?

How do you tell what version GPU drivers you have? Mine are the stock ones that came from gateway but I sure would like to know what version they are (FYI they work great)
    Device Manager says

    Driver Version: 7.15.11.7924
    Driver Date: 11/21/2008
    Driver Provider: Nvidia

    Any help? Thanks! :)

You dont..there are numerous software suites you can download to monitor temps..I use CPU ID (HWMonitor)..some people use RivaTuner as well

Anyone have an answer to my driver version question..thanks!

i think its the last five numbers of the driver number you have, so you would have 179.24?

those are pretty old, everyone says the DOX 185.68 drivers are the best, but who knows!

That seems way too hot. Out of the 4 that I tested, one of them IMMEDIATELY shot up to 90degrees and then then high 90s before I turned it off less than 2 minutes later.

Most of mine stayed under 87 running the 1440x900 stability test at the 15 minute mark. I 'm keeping the one that stayed at 82 for myself.
