i was expecting something more like 'get a replacement laptop'...
i was playing l4d for hours and it was kind of hot environment, and my temps were hitting 85 degrees.

im thinking the GPU couldnt handle it so now i need a replacement laptop

85 is still quite nominal, but i would say go for a replacement anyway, better safe then sorry.

Your screen cable connecting to the motherboard is loose...
Unplug it and plug it back in

this apparently has actually happening to alot of these laptops

Yes, it will void warranty....unless they don't know you opened it. You should be fine. But I would just send it in just in case. Better safe than sorry.
