Alright here goes, downgraded to xp at the same time formatting the drive. incomplete drivers, now left with a paperweight. i would reaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllly appreciate help regarding drivers for this machine in xp64bit.

Why not just download the drivers onto a disk and then reformat? All you really need are your wifi and ethernet drivers, then work your way up from there.

if i know where to get the drivers, then i dont need a format. i just dont know which drivers to get except the graphics card, for which i have a driver. gateway only suports vista, so they dont have xp compatible drivers

XP 64 bit.. ewww

I hope you mean the epic failure is on your part.
The p7805u doesn't come in XP variant so it's really not Gateway's responsibility to provide XP drivers.
That said, this forum has been very helpful in getting XP installed on mine. The main problem was the sound drivers and it was frustrating trying to get it to work.
I tried some variation of the solutions in the links sparky has provided and got it working though.
But after all that work, I think I'll be going back to a vista clean install quite soon -

You should've just installed windows 7 imo, it has the same performance if not better performance than XP.
