    Hello everyone,

I have been behind the scenes following this forum for quite a while now and have just now registered (I know I don't know what took me so long). So first off I would like to thank all of you for your contributions to this forum. I have recently disassembled my p7805u (luckily I put it back together and am using it just fine now). There was an unbelievable amount of dust trapped between the fan and the heat sink in both the GPU and CPU so that required a nice cleaning. I also replaced the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU. Immediately after reassembling my laptop I found my average temperatures of my CPU dropped significantly (70-80°C to 48-60°C) and my GPU temperatures dropped as well (80° to 65-70°). But I am still having trouble getting certain games to run " smoothly".

My question is regarding Kizwan's modified BIOS -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/gateway-emachines/649986-p-78-updated-bios-mod-kizwan.html

I am wondering whether I can use this modified BIOS on a 64 bit system? Is there any other modded BIOS from Kizwan which is specifically for p7805u laptops that support solely 64 bit systems?

Please let me know if I can go ahead to begin the BIOS updating process when I get home from work later today!

Thank you guys very much for all your help,

    John

The bios itself runs under the OS and is not bit specific per say. It is flashable from a command line and that is usually bit specific. Other than that you are fine. If you are CPU limited though just the EIST unlock will doubtfully get you the extra power needed. A CPU upgrade may be in order, not that you need to go crazy, 2.66GHz and above should easily compliment the 9800m.

Thank you for your prompt response TANWare.

I will load Kizwan's modded BIOS onto a USB and attempt flashing the bios prior to booting of the OS once I get home from class today. I will let you know how everything turns out in the end and hopefully include a screenshot of the before and after effects of the modified BIOS.

I have attempted to flash my BIOS several times now, unfortunately I have not succeeded. I am getting a message stating "Remove disks and devices - Press any key to restart..." - this message shows up directly after I select the option to boot from my USB drive directly following a restart. I went through the cmd prompt (as an admin) to create a bootable usb drive and then dragged the files from the .zip over to the removable drive.

I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I have also never approached a .wph file and am not sure if I am doing this correctly.

there is a HP utility to create a bootable USB drive, I do not think the cmd prompt will get you there. I'll apologize but others will have to get you there as I've never done it with a usb drive.

I have also tried this through the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - allowing me to create a bootable usb, but even then this did not work. I am wondering if it has to do with the fact that this is a .wph file and not a .bin file?

as far as I can see you would use the .rom file for the .23 version, that is unless you were getting the .17 from my site.
