My 6860fx video chip has died and I have revived it by baking it too many times now. I lost track. I think I've put it in the oven about 6 times now. I am too poor to afford a new computer atm, which is what I really need to get, but I am also tired of taking this computer apart just for an extra 2 weeks of life for a 3 year old computer.
I was wondering if there is any interest in parting out the working parts of the 6860 I have. The computer has been very well taken care of so the case and keyboard, media bar, LCD, hard drive - all these things work fine. Basically the only issue I have is the GPU because of the stupid shotty soldering. I know I could send it to a place to have them reball the GPU or even replace it - but I don't really want to do that anymore. I think I'd rather just try to part it out and make a little money I could put toward a new computer.
Is there any market for this type of thing? Somehow, when I take it all apart and I have a perfectly functioning LCD... I think, "This has to be worth something, it's a nice piece of hardware." Maybe not though. I don't know what sort of connection it uses to hook up to the motherboard - maybe it's some proprietary connection or something? It would be cool to find an adapter and make a monitor out of the LCD though.
Anyway - I am at a loss as to what I should do with this piece of technology I have. It works, to a degree... It has enough functioning parts that I don't want to just throw it in the trash. But I really don't know what I should do with it otherwise.
Thanks in advance for any tips. I really appreciate this community and look forward to hearing any ideas or advice.

If you're short on cash to afford a new machine then I would advice a GPU reball and at least extract a couple years more out of it then move on.
If you simply want to get rid of it quick try ebay/craigslist, there are plenty of people out there looking for broken laptops to repair/resell.
Good luck! -
Thanks Ownasaur! I'll look into the ebay/craigslist thing. Maybe I could get a couple hundred. I think the GPU reball is something like 150 dollars and from another thread it didn't seem like people had too good of deals with that (needing to send it back a couple times and having it fail again).
I'm going to try to build a new desktop part by part. I guess I might be migrating to the desktop review forums -
If you want details PM me -
I was just reading that other thread. I posted in it a while ago, when I first baked my laptop. Now I see it might be possible to do it yourself. I wouldn't mind experimenting. But that is good to know, that it is 75 dollars to have it done. I'm anxious to see how well it works for you!
