I have a Gateway mt3708. I want it to display on my big screen tv. Do I need a vga converter or will a vga-s video adaptor suffice. In other words, does my ati radeon express 200m video card support tv out?

It supports TV-out, but does your computer not have an S-video out?

it has only a vga out, for which I can get a cheap vga/s-video adaptor or a more costly converter.

since the video card does support tv out, can I just adapt the vga to s-video or do I still need to convert it?

If your TV accepts a vga connection, then you can just use that. Otherwise, if your tv only has s-video in, then you need an s-video out. You can get a pcmcia/express card that has such a connection if your computer doesn't.
