my friend is buying one. i was checking this baby out and it has 1066 ram. why is that needed in a budget gaming laptop? companies like alieware dont even offer that in most gaming desktops the offer. my point is it much better than 800 mhz ram and can 800mhz ram be overclocked to match it? Why does gateway provide such highend ram (most people dont even look at mhz when they buy a laptop) and such a low end cpu (i know its not that bad but by comparison to its other specs its out of place) also are theese things durable in the long run for like 2 years of everyday use? gateway cant possibly be profiting well off theese things with specs and a price like that.

Could be that the price difference is small or they can get it cheaper than 800. I know from newegg you can find some 800 memory cheaper than 667

Because 7811FX uses the 3rd generation “Montevina“ platform. and 1066hz is the standard. so just buy and enjoy~~~

The next generation has started, and some brands are late to the party. Gateway, Clevo, and Toshiba are leading the way, while Dell/Alienware, Apple, Sony and the rest are stuck unable to make the refresh until next year.

Seems cheaper to upgrade the RAM than the CPU. High-end CPU wouldn't make it a budget laptop.

But just goes to show how much Alienware and other companies screw the consumer. :(

What an insane post. Write Gateway a check for another $500 if you fell bad about it. :D

Yes, they are making money off these notebooks - maybe more than they make off other ones.

The CPU has a lot to do with it - all the new ones are 1066 FSB, which means I can't buy one for my 6860 ;(

Oh well, my machine still rocks for an 816.00 refurb model lol. It's flawless- not a scratch, dead pixel or anything.
