Can the x7900s be overclocked to 3.0ghz in the gateway p6831-fx's? I know the x9000's can.

Also what is the size of that chip? Do they get really hot? Should I just spend a little extra and get a T9300/T9500 Instead?

Also does the 4mb cache vs the 6mb cache really matter from the x7900 vs the t9300/t9500?

I know the x9000 is the fastest chip of this pc, would it then go the x7900 then the t9500 then the t9300?

    Ignite,

Get the T9300 or T9500 unless you want to have a heater under your palms.

just because it had a higher tdp does not mean itll run at a higher temp. in fact the x9000 you get could infact run at 35tdp temps. this is what intel says about tdp "System and Maximum TDP is based on worst case scenarios. Actual TDP may be lower if not all I/Os for chipsets are used"

if the 6831fx cooling system is anything like the 7805u then youll be fine with the temps. the difference in size is that x7900 is a 65nm cpu while the x9000 is a 45nm cpu also the x7900 has a 4mb cache while the others have 6mb. other then that they all seem to have the same features. depending on how much you wanna spend that would determine the cpu to go with. i personally would go with the x9000 then t9500 then x7900 then t9300. if you decide to go with the x7900 avoid getting the SLA33 cpu as those run hotter then they should.
