ive got a gateway m250x. ide like to reinstall windows but ive been reading about all this stuff about the d partition and the drivers not available on gateways website. i made the backup recovery disk as soon as i started up my computer for the first time. basically my goal is to wipe out the hard drive and reinstall windows so that all ive got on my computer is windows xp and the necessary drivers, no extra programs or crap like that. is that possible to do with the recovery disk? or will it repartition my hard drive again and give me back the preinstalled programs. if my post is confusing at all, just ask and i'll be able to redescribe my problem. thanks in advance.

Worst case is that it installs it as you have it now. If you can get a copy of the XP Home disc, which is what I am assuming you have, you should be able to do a clean install with it. Microsoft should allow you to activate as long as you have a legal copy which you do since one came with your notebook.
