    Well, 1920 x 1200 = 2304000 pixels

    1440 x 900 = 1296000 pixels
    2304000/1296000 = 1.7777777...
That's an extra 77% detail the GPU will have to cough up if you intend to game at that resolution.

It's definitely possible, but expect loss in quality, especially for newer games. For older games, it might not be an issue at all.

if you game in those resolutions your performance will take a hit
as the gpu will have to render much more pixels,

    1440x900=1296000 -> 1900x1200= 2280000

    (maybe)

What do mean mean by "old"? Would Lock On qualify as old? I'd love to be able to run it at that res.

Can you configure most games to run at standard 1400x900 on a 1900x1200 LCD?

no, but you can configure them for 1440x900 for lcd and 1400x1050 for 24" lcd screen. also some games have custom resolutions.

edit: and of course...whoevers idea of what screen resolution you should have in the nv_disp.inf or nvac.inf file

Yes if found this out the hard way with my former laptop Xps Gen 2. It had 1920x1200 resolution and a 6800 ultra. I tried to play COD2 at 1920x1200 and got to see a nifty slide show. I of course reduced the resolution and it played great.

Judging from Lock On's system specs,

What are Lock On's system specs?

    Windows(r)98/ME/XP/2000
Pentium III 800/AMD Athlon 600 or better
256 MB RAM (512 MB RAM recommended)
3D video card (DirectX 8.1 compatible) w/32MB RAM (128MB recommended)
    Sound Card (Direct 8.1 compatible)
DirectX 8.1 or higher (included on disc)
4X CD-ROM or better (Not recommended for use with CD-RWs)
Internet connection (56 kbps or better) or LAN for multiplayer
    Hard Drive Space 1.1 GB

I would say, yea, you can max it on 1920 x 1200. However, Vista might not let you enjoy the game. :D
