so i was playing gears of war last night and it shuts off all of a sudden. i tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't, neither would it after i put in the battery. nothing happens when i press the power on button, so i assume something inside was fried, any other possibilities? i called gateway this morning and they told me to ship it to them. my question is what's most likely to happen? will they send me a new one? will they repair it free of charge? or will they charge me for the repair?( i did after all overclock the GPU to 550 the first day i got it) appreciate the help.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't laptops supposed to come with a 1 year warranty standard? If that's the case, they should hopefully be able to repair/replace it without charge.
-
I am pretty sure Gateway will not charge you for the repair as it does not work. All Gateway laptops come standard with a 1 year limited warranty. I think that Gateway technicians will see that the laptop does not turn on and will probably just replace the motherboard or send you another one free of charge. Gateway wants to keep you as a customer, so repairing or, if it can't be repaired, replacing the laptop free of charge.

Best bet would be to take out that t8300 and replace it with the t5550 if you have it. If not they will most likely say you are SOL.
-
thx for the input, and yes i did take out the processor, that was the first thing i did. and i do have the 1 year limited warranty, but misuse, abuse and accident are not covered, i don't know where they draw the line

if they can't turn it on will they be able to tell you OC'd?
was 550 ur core clock?
i got 9800m gts at 698 so i wouldn't think that would be over doing it... -
i don't know how they'll do it, but i think the problem is not caused by overclocking. i'll keep my fingers crossed though
-
if anyone asks about oc just ask "what is it that?, i thought vista adjust the time automatically, should i have done something ? "
they will take care of you, don't worry. -

just wondering cause this is what's wrong with my 6860. try hitting the Media Center button and see if it turns on, i have to send mine in cause the power button broke, but that button turns it on also.
-
the media center button? you mean the one on the right of side of the power button with 2 arrows pointing to the opposite site? i already shipped it, so i guess i'm too late to check
so yeah, my 6860 fx dies yesterday, need some help please.
