so.. i finally started playing games and theres something missing; well Crysys looks nothing like the DX10 demo i play with everything but shadows on high i just lower my resolution to make it run smooth. but yea im not seen all this pretty things http://video.google.com/videoplay?d...4WirALtmrWnCw&q=directx+9+vs+dx10&vt=lf&hl=en ... So is my pc the only one not showing the shinnies :p? I'm using the drivers that came with my pc. Everything works perfectly it just doesn't look like dx10 to me.

I wouldn't worry about it and certainly wouldn't base an opinion of gaming on Crysis. Do a search, and not just on this board, of the mixed bag of feelings that has become Crysis. Try COD4 or something else with a story with teeth.

I would recommend it as it's the most hardware-demanding game right now. Crysis Warhead is also in the same league, but many report improved performance over the original Crysis (and some say it even looks better).

But don't worry about that video. Crysis was dramatically toned down for it's release. It still looks **** good, but there's definately some Shader work in those promo vids that was cut from the final product. But hell, just look at it this way - if Crysis did end up looking like that, it would run at 5 fps. It still looks **** good.

Btw, do yourself a favor and run the game in Dx9. The only feature that Dx10 has in the game that cannot be done in Dx9 is Object Blur (watch your guns blur while reloading and you'll see an example of it). It's very subtle and not missed because it drastically eats up framerate. Regular Motion Blur is just fine. Also, create a custom config (autoexec.cfg) file to allow you to customize all of your graphical settings. In Dx9, you can enable all of the bells and whistles, and cut so many corners that not only will it run better than Very High settings, it will look just as good.

    guys i got a quick question...kinda hijacking the thread i guess :D
i was playing crysis on my p-7811 and my temps hit 84 degrees, then it froze :( its been 30 days since i bought the laptop. is it normal that it freezes at this temp?(i would think it is) or is it that my laptop is faulty and the temps shouldn't go this high?

Auch man i dont know, but mine gets so freaking hot if i ut my hand clsoe to it (the air vent on the uper left) it feels my skin is been cooked under a heat lamp/hot air gun) heck the other day i put a glass of millk next to it (a cold one) played mass effect for lirk 15 minutes the milk got hot. So yea... it gets hot but i dont knwo about your situation make a new post maybe? I been puting 2 book on the back of the battery to raise the laptop of my desk and it keeps it cooler. also make sure theres nothing to the left of it. if you hav crpa in your desk move it to the right. the left needs all the air it can get.

there was a hack which made crysis look just as good on dx9 as with dx10. search tweakguides or google 'crysis dx9 hack' or something

Well I've only had mine since Friday, but that seems a little high. I've played Crysis on it for 2 hours straight and temps peaked around 73 C. You should blow out your fans and make sure that it's getting adequate airflow.

I'm not sure what the core temperature threshold is for the GPU in this thing, but the 9800m GTS will throttle back (slowdown) before it gets there.
