I think I finally found what is causing my back fan to turn on at regular intervals (like the GPU fan). It looks like it's sqlserver.exe*32 suddenly spiking to 30% CPU usage. It took me a while to figure this out, partly because I just chalked it up to the 7811's crappy fans, and partly because the fan doesn't turn on for every spike, only if the CPU gets hot enough. What could be causing sqlserver to spike all of a sudden (it does so at regular intervals)?

Sqlserver.exe can be a trojan. Where's the file located on your HD?

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\Binn

I would not be surprised at all if it was a trojan. I can't do a full system virus scan w/o my computer crashing, so I don't know if I'm infected or not.

Did you try doing an online scan? worth a try.

Also, I don't think that's malware, considering where it's located. I have no idea why you'd get spikes like that though. If I'm not mistaken, unless you are running as a server, that's not a necessary process in the first place.

I'll try an online scan when I get the chance. It's not happening right now though, and I'm pretty busy, so I'll do it later. I'll post the results of the scan when I have them.

Looks like a virus unless you're running a web server or database....upload the exe to virustotal.com...
