Tomorrow Im going to pick up a gateway p-7805u from best buy and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Im coming from canada(approx. 3 hour drive) and Im going to test everything to make sure it works before I come back. I just wanted to know what programs should I be using and what should I test to make sure it works properly. This is my first laptop but I work at fixing computers so Im a little tech savvy. Thanks in advance!

Try bringing a game like Crysis Demo or w/e, and burn a CD with all the testing programs. or just bring a portable USB with them.

bring a portable USB with progs like orthos or ATItool (for CPU and GPU respectively). don't forget 3dmark06 and HWMonitor for performance and temperature testing.

run cpuid hwmonitor in the background while running your favorite stress tool.
when you exit the app hwmonitor will show the max temp.

gpu should idle 40-50, max at 75-80
cpu should idle less than 45, max 55-70

    no facts stated.

ok idle cpu is 28 and gpu 40-41 and tzs0 and tzs1 are at low 50s high 40s is that bad? hdd is 45ish.

During windows updates cpu 35ish, tzs0/1 same thing, hdd same and gpu is 45.

Now, what settings should crysis demo be tested at?

1920x1200 and toy around with medium and high settings probably medium on the shaders and shadows or you can run it out of native res say at 1440x900 and again just play around with the settings . Some people wont run games out of native ie Me and others it does not bother as much .
