I bought a P9700 from Gentech(Ken Lee is awesome) and this laptop is night and day now... I'm running benchmarks for the next few days but I thought you guys should know... He has a good deal on this processor and it seems to be a total great for me right now,,,

What was the stock one? I know jumping from the horribly terrible T5550(nah it was ok :)), to the X7800 the whole system was generally snappier.

I agree. Going from my T5550 to a T9300 has been a wonderful thing... ;)

Nice. Just a FYI for the rest of you. The stock one is a P8400. I may do the upgrade some day but I don't find a need for it right now.

I went from 2.26 to 2.93, and I have to say, I don't even notice the difference in general computing. Stuff was pretty much instant in the first place, and if it wasn't, lack of processing power wasn't the problem. The main reason I got it was so I could run Morrowind better. Can you believe that? Upgrading my already good processor to run a 6 year old game. And it still lags in some places.

I had the same experience. I went from 2.26 to 3.06 but the computer was instant already. There was a much bigger difference when I upgraded to the SSD. When I changed the CPU, the only difference I noticed is loading times are slightly lower when the CPU is locked to the max multiplier.

I've been looking at some SSDs as well. The Samsung HDD is alright speed wise, but it runs way too hot, and it's not very big on the 7811. I still need SSD prices to come down a bit though before I get one. And then maybe the load times in Half Life 2 won't be so bad. lol, all the stuff I buy for my computer goes toward improving the performance of 5 year old software.

For me, it irked me that I couldn't watch full screen Hulu on this thing... Now I can... Flash video being processor demanding, full screen Hulu is much much better with almost 600 more mhz and double the cache... As for day to day stuff i noticed a small difference but I do a lot of vector art stuff with Illustrator... So for me it was a good investment...

Did you try locking the P8400 to the max multiplier?

You guys, I'm pretty sure the full screen thing is some kind of glitch. It does not happen on 32bit windows, even when the processor is going 100%. And I don't even understand why it needs that much CPU power. It runs fine when it's in its little window. When you go fullscreen, is it being upscaled? And if so, why the hell the the CPU in charge of that?

its flash, flash is handled by the cpu, and it is upscaled to the higher resolution of being fullscreen
