Ok so I got the T-1620 for christmas, I love it, except I have a problem, I want to watch movies, ect, on my tv. Its a Samsung DLP. If you need more info on it ill find it for you. My problem is when i plug in through the HDMI I get a fine picture, but when I go to actually play the movie the audio is staticy. (I dont know how to describe it I know its suppose to be a digital signal so there cant be "static") I tried using realtek drivers instead of the Vista drivers but Vista wont let me update them. It says "The best driver for your device is already installed." So any help is appriciated. Also I was wondering if any other T-1620/1616 owners were having the problem of the laptop overheating if its at a 45+ degree angle (front down back up).

Sorry if there was already an answer but Ive been looking for two days and cant find anyway to fix this, if its just changing it to digital how do I do that? Other then changing the default sound device to the HDMI port.

about the audio its the headphone jack that you plug in the sound.

also have you tried another movie? could be the cd itself

OR check the connection of the speakers.

about the 45 degree angle. i havent tried it like that probably i have mine at 30 degrees if im on the bed. if on the table i just leave it without any support. the left side does get kind of warm but nothing to worry about, AMD's are just hot, does your laptop shut down due to heat?

yes it shuts down. thats why i thought it was weird. if its above 45 degrees the fan kicks in high and about 2 min later it shuts down. About the HDMI i thought it was video and audio. it would be nice to just have to hook up one cable but if i have to use the spdif then i guess i can.

the HDMI is just for video on this laptop sorry. you gotta use the headphone jack

about the overheating issue. its been 3 months for me and it hasnt shut down due to heat.. its probably the angle. its probably too high heat gets where it shouldnt. as long as the laptop has enough space to breath underneath it should be fine. i leave my laptop for hours on end for a movie marathon(around 3 movies at a time) at no angle.

yea im getting use to the angle now, so its ok, im thinking its because the cpu is in the top left and there arent any top vents, so when its at a high angle heat collects there overheating the cpu, but other then that no problems. just needs a vent in the back too.

Back to the HDMI. if these lappys only use the video part of the HDMI how come we have a HDMI audio output? (right click volume icon then playback devices) its just surprising to me that the laptop cant utilize the audio out, thats my favorite thing about HDMI, one cable carries it all.

Have you thought about overclocking the video? Im thinking about it but i dont like the fact that there is only the hdd heat sensor, there has to be a cpu one but how can i view it?

i dunno about overclocking but yeah thats how hdmi works on this laptop. actually its one of the few laptops that does have HDMI and comes out at a cheap price. 599 when i bought it at bestbuy. so even with the audio output on the headphone jack its still quite a marvel.

as for the vents i think the left side is enough but another vent on the back would be nice.

as for overclocking good luck coz i really never bothered with it as im not much of a gamer. just casual :p

yea i guess ill deal with the HDMI, but yea i found out it is the lack of a rear fan that overheats it sometimes. I dont really want to overclock it because i dont wanna fry something. you ever play BF2 on this? hows it play if yes

im sure bf2 will work fine on it. played lotsa old games like splinter cell chaos theory, dawn of war rts, company of heroes plays alright on medium. halo 2 on low and medium and all high on half life 2. gaming really isnt why i got the laptop but it games alright.

I test the T-1625 at bestbuy yesterday by hooking it up to their LCD/Plasma TVs with HDMI cable. I selected the HDMI audio out in the audio device control. No sound from the TVs. Just from the notebook itself. While it is nice to have a HDMI port on the notebook, but it wastes the nice integration feature of video and audio of HDMI. In the audio control panel, there is a third option for SPDIF out. I assume it is from the regular headphone jack. What kind of cable I should use to get the digital audio out from this jack, instead of the typical stere?

Any notebook in the market now that has HDMI port and support both video and digital audio?

I also feel quite warm on the left palm rest area on this notebook. Warmer than a similar specs HP. Also, the optical drive must be closed carefully, otherwise, the top edge of the tray will bang the body of the notebook and prevent you to close it.

This particular Gateway is so much cheaper than a comparable HP. Any concerns I should pay attention to?

    Thanks

I bought a new Gateway T-1625 at BB on Monday. After a a couple of initial glitches I'm pretty happy with it so far...

You're right cdcooker, the left side of the notebook does get pretty warm, you can see copper heat sink fins behind the vent there and it really pumps out the heat. The rest of the notebook stays relatively cool except for the area under the vent and so far heat hasn't been an issue for me.

I discovered the hard way that the MS ATI drivers installed by default in Windows Update will break Vista's built in DVD decoder and generally work badly on this notebook. Also, the motherboard drivers offered on WU as optional will break the USB ports. After restoring from the recovery partition and deselecting the ATI driver in WU, everything is working great now including DVDs and the USB ports. I went from a Vista performance rating of 2.5 with the MS drivers to a 3.0 with the original drivers.

There is no support documentation at all for the T-1625 on the Gateway site, but it appears to be mostly the same as the T-1622... just a 2.0Ghz processor with 2Gb RAM and a 250Gb HDD. It also has a different DVD drive, not slot loading but with some unwanted lightscribe type feature.

    3DMark 03, 1400 +
    Super Pi 1M, –45sec
Observed battery life, over 2 hours of DVD watching and browsing.

Al in all I'm really pleased with my $649 purchase.

what do you mean by HDMI is just for video? I'm having the same problem in that the audio skips every now and then but it does work. You have to specify the HDMI to be the default audio device each time you connect, but the audio does play on my panasonic 50pz77u. I was hoping that someone had figured out on how to keep the audio from skipping. Anyone?

Does the 1625 output 1080p to a LCD or just 720p? The guy at BB didn't know. Too bad about the audio over hdmi being messed up. I was just about to buy one of these until I saw this thread.

Interesting update: I had no issues with the audio today. I don't know if it just needed to worked in or what. I suspect that the laptop processor is not fast enough to keep up with the continuous sound output and other background functions. I didn't make any changes though, and I was able to watch an entire movie with no degradation in sound.

As for the output, it is full 1080p.

ok i would like to report my HDMI is working fine under XP. plugged it in set the HDMI port as my default for audio and it took right off. Dont hav any skipping problems or anything with it just perfect. Im starting to think i got a good cpu though, ive heard that some peoples cpu is running at about 15% idle in vista without the bloatware. with bloateware my topped at about 5% idle, and in XP virtually no cpu usage while idle and only 200mb of RAM used!!!! im happy with this laptop now though, and if you want XP drivers ill be happy to help. or if your mad at gateway for something let all your anger out then ask for xp drivers, theyll gladly tell you where to find them and that they do exist just to shut you up. :) thats from personal experience. Good luck to all trying to fix HDMI i will help as much as possible, and remember the best fix is usually XP.

    XP drivers for Gateway t-1625

    Southbridge Chipset; Dell R134875

    LAN; Realtek PCIE_Install_5664

Video; Dell R163694; “Right-click” “update driver” from Device Manager, manually target and install the driver as if you had a disk. One profile works the other doesn't. Ignore the warning.

Sound ; Have SP2, dotnetfx 1.1 and 2.0, then install XP hotfix kb888111, Realtek/ATI HDMI_R168, Gateway cab D00664-001-001. Worked for my speakers, can't test HDMI.

Webcam; “Right-click” “update driver” from Device Manager

Wifi; Realtek installer you can download easily, sorry I lost the number.

    Good Luck!

    Hello to ALL
I have read all the forums concerning XP AUDIO drivers for gateway notebooks T-16XX . I have the T-1625 but I have a problem. I have followed the 3 steps that al forums say:
    1. - Installed the kb888111.exe patch.
    2 .- When I am installing this file F3185-HDMI_R168.exe
    I got the following error:
NO driver was supported in this driver package.

The sound card device that Everest say is:
SigmaTel STAC9205X @ ATI RS690(M) Chipset - High Definition Audio Controller
SigmaTel STAC9205X @ ATI SB600 - High Definition Audio Controller

Does anyone have a clue, what could be happening?
    Any Help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

My Gateway T-1628 overheats and shuts off its power almost immediately when the keyboard is vertical with open air all around it and all vents free and open (new computer). Core Temp verifies that the temperature is quickly reaching 100 degrees C. At lower angles, the effect is lower, and at 45% it takes 100% CPU usage before the temperature reaches 100 degrees C and power shuts off. My remaining question is should I consider the line defective or the individual computer--exchange or refund.

The HDMI audio works great. Here is what you do to get it to work.
control panel, hardware and sound, manage audio devices, right click on speakers / headphones and disable it. Restart the the computer. Now it will work
when you plug the HDMI in your TV.
    enjoy

Need to put in my 2 cents here about the Gateway T 1620 HDMI to LCD TV issue. I bought a new Sharp LCD TV just this week and wanted to use it mainly as a TV, but as a periodic monitor too. It had a number of HDMI connections so I was thinking it would be very easy to connect by Gateway T 1620 to the LCD TV. Not so easily done.

Video works great. But the speakers to a Gateway T 1620 leave much to be desired. Had hoped that audio would travel through the HDMI and out the TV speakers. Not possible. I made a huge effort in making this happen ... updated drivers, poured through Sharp manual and adjusted and readjusted a number of settings, and hours of research on Sharp, Gateway sites and general internet. The audio will simply not come through the HDMI cable and into the TV.

The only solution I found was a SVGA cable and separate audio from headphone jack and into the TV. While this is workable, I'm left with a problem I still can not resolve ... now the video is not so great and I can't find a way to get the TV to work in widescreen mode as a monitor.

Bottom line - The HDMI connectivity of the Gateway T 1620 is useless.

I had the same problem with my T-1628 but installed the latest drivers from ATI's website now I get sound and video from the HDMI ;)
