Hey guys getting ready to upgrade my 6831fx. Couple quick questions. Do you guys recommend the t9300 or t9500 and can either of the two be overclocked? I know the x9000 can be o/c'd to 3.0 but they are a little more expensive.

Also is there a big difference between ES and QS. I know that ES is the engineering samples and qs is quality samples for the public that have been thoroughly tested, but has anyone ever had a problem with an actual es chip?

I found this for 250 shipped on ebay for what appears to be a QS t9500, is this a good deal?

Does anyone know of a really good deal on ebay for either a t9300 or t9500 or x9000?

Also, just to double check the t9300's and t9500's will run cooler then the x9000 correct? Last question, is the x9000 "a lot" better then the t9500 in gaming/video encoding/decoding and winrar extracting? I do a lot of downloading of big files and extracting them with winrar can kinda be a pain with this stock processor lol.

I game lightly, little bit of wow, little cs, little cod mw2, nfs shift etc. Nothing real big but I could use the processing boost. Let me know what you guys recommend overall, thanks :)

    Zach.

You can only overclock the T9300 and T9500 if you can overclock your FSB.

The X9000 has an unlocked multi, so it's easy to overclock.

I can try to help you overclock your FSB before you buy a new CPU, so you will know the one to get.

The only way to overclock on these notebooks is with an extreme cpu.

Thanks for the quick response. I have tried to change the fsb with "setfsb" however it does not support the pll's we have. Other then that program, not really sure what else to try. I don't think there has been any success overclocking the gateway p6831-fx with any programs. I also know the x9000 can only be pushed to 3.0 instead of 3.2 on these lappys.

Another question though, would you recommend a SSD drive and a storage drive or 2 320gb hard drives in raid 0? I was thinking about getting 2 of these drives.

If I will be happier with a single ssd and a storage drive though then I will go that route.

You could try to hard-mod the PLL to change the FSB to 266mhz.
I can help you if you have a datasheet for your PLL.

I would but since I am going to upgrade there isn't much of a point. I think the stock settings on a t9500 will be enough :). Anyone know of a good deal on a t9500 anywhere?

Also what notebook coolers do you guys recommend?

I have a T9300 and can tell you that you really will notice a performance boost.... The T9500 would probably be a waste of money and hard to find for a good price... for overall performance/price ratio the T9300 is still your best bet... I got mine off a website called ITxchange for about $175 a year ago... I just did a search and they had one listed for $113 but it was just bought... they go off that website like hotcakes.... so go to the website and make a search for a "T9300" every few days

Get a T9300. T9500 only if the price difference is small and within your budget.
