anyone here deal with ebay venders for cpu's? ive been watching auctions and it seems i can get cpu's for $100 less than newegg if im willing to bid. are they legit? my computer boggs down alittle while running a few different apps so i know an upgrade is needed.
the 9300 is quite nice and within reach, but the x9000 seems to be the catsmeow!!! views, thx vynle

Get the best you feel comfortable affording. Neither will disappoint you, but the x9000 can overclock (safely).. so its all a matter of $..
-
If you are buying from eBay you want X9000 Q174 or T9500 Q9WW which are QS chips. The other B1 stepping chips do not have temperature monitoring and your CPU fans will constantly run at 100%.
I run an X9000 Q174 and it runs perfectly. -
what made you go with the x9000 over the t9500? thx vynle
-
3.0GHz vs 2.6GHz
-
crap, the only x9k on ebay is a BiN of $529...are they really that expensive?
-
To the op: Both of the cpu's you've listed are incredibly high end, tbh i doubt you'd really NEED anything that extreme and pricey. I'd go with something more modest like a t8300 or maybe an x7800 if you do some cpu intensive stuff. -
Oh, and... I just bought my x7800 off of ebay for 190 big ones (not bad, eh) and it was completely legit.
-
awesome price
the x7800 is the best bang for buck out there by far. -
I was looking at the t9300 or the x7800 is there a specific model number that I need in order to get them to work with the temp monitoring in my 68060?
-
the last revision was E1 that should give same features as the retail chip
-
Oh, so the chips on ebay need to have a specific version number because they are non-retail. So if I buy the t9300 off of NewEgg (hypothetically) I wont have to worry about a version number because its a retail chip. Is that correct?
I am sorry but I am completely new to the notebook scene so I wasn't aware how this worked. -
retail means you get full intel warranty, usually life time - no worries there.
oem means you get a very limited warranty (3 months ?? and it comes without a fancy box and the useless manuals)
on ebay you should get doa 14 days replacement. -
COUGHGETONOFFEBAYCOUGH
.... whew, excuse me. xD -
yep my cough sounds pretty much the same
-
Hey how does the heat and battery life compare between the t9300 and x9000 are they about the same? Also, if I do order of ebay, from China, which seams to be the only option how long does it usually take to get to the US. I need this by Xmas...
-
t9300 should run a tad cooler, battery life difference on casual use (surfing the net, watching movies or word processing) should be negligible on using rmclock and vista power saving. should be able to hit 3 hours+ on both cpu.
gaming on battery is not recommended, battery will last under 40 min and frequent fast drainage will kill your battery in no time.
as to delivery time, why dont you email the seller? mine was very helpful. -
hey, guys, there is a x7800 on ebay for 180 + shipping:

is it ES? right stepping? -
-
-
he just doesnt have any pictures, he has sold about 100 items though.
and I guarantee it is an ES, but he CPU-z shot shows as a retail. Still good deal though. -
um t9300 goes for just over 200 in ebay.
probably a better deal than a x7800
t8300 i have seen go for 120$ also a better deal. Those are the best deals on ebay. -
-
-
By the way, what does "es" mean? :l
-
engineering sample
-
lol Engineering Sample sounds like a rip off. But i would still get it because i am cheap. Will be buying the x7800. Its like the gateway 6860FX of CPUS ( if you know what i mean ).
Is it better to get a x7800 over the t9300.
All i want to do is play crysis. -
The x7800 is cheaper and has more potential, but out of the box the t9300 is better.
-
I also bought the x7800 from that seller. Bought on the 28th and 1st delivery attempt was yesterday so pretty much 1 week from Taiwan to VA. Pretty fast if you ask me.
Anyways the seller said it is the "final version of ES, which is QZXR (you can google it). It is totally the same as the retail version (expect the printing on the cpu) and it has all the features of the retail one."
Here is the 1st link from google when you search for QZXR. Says E1. Good/Bad?
You can get it for $168 shipped if you do the live.com...it's @ 15% now. Maybe wait a few days and see if it goes back to 20/30% for the xmas shoppers.
FWIW he also has the t9300 for $235 shipped or $197 after live cashback.
Perfect feedback + cheapest prices = win in my book. -
e1 is same as retail
welcome to the cool X club -
I just bought a t9300 for $240 shipped (but I had an ebay 10% off coupon) I'll link you the vendors store. They shipped fast and were totally legit for me no problems. i was worried at first b\c the chip was packed in bubble wrap, but I didn't know till posting on here that the pink bubble wrap is antistatic so no worries.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=350129449677
so this is the actual item auction I purchased. Anywho, as I said honest seller fast ship good deal all around. the feedback is 98ish% i prefer high as possible but thats on 20,000 sales so come on...
Another note for you, with this t9300 in mine, I don't notice much difference at all in windows maybe a bit faster opening things hardly noticable if at all. I mainly wanted to see fallout 3 stop lagging here and there when I opened the item menu or entered a building but it is still the exact same way. So if your looking for performance and have the coin I might look into an x series as suggested. Maybe the gains are more than I recognize but honest i can't say WOW this is a huge dif b\c I don't see it (again doesn't mean it isn't there)
sorry so long, just wanted to give u advice cause I just went thru this 2 weeks ago... -
-
may i say this the 1st time i hear a tone of disappointment from such an upgrade.
maybe you should run some maintanance on your rig, like registry scan defrag av scan malaware scan etc
the t9300 is a major upgrade over the stock cpu. -
There should def be some improvement from a 1.83 2mb to a 2.5 6mb chip. -

As everyone else has said, the t9300 should be a pretty significant boost to your computing.
Though you might not really ever preform CPU intensive tasks so never use the processors abilities.
Though if a game is still stuttering i would look into different vid drivers and check to see if the game has a patch for it.
The t9300 is a competent CPU for 99% of your gaming needs -
One of the first posters mentioned 3.0GHZ for the X9000 - is that the limit for "safe" overclocking on this laptop? I'm also trying to decide whether to get the "bang for the buck" or the top / end of the line for my 6831; currently still stock. If the X can be overclocked past 3.0 reliably I might spring for it. I assume the bios support is there?
-
on all gateway fx max oc is 3.0ghz regardless of which x chip you use
t9300 or x9000 in p6831
