how do u check if u got the right GPU driver version installed???

i updated my driver to 177.41 (177 something) using animal's guide. and i also, installed the nvidia performance thing (animal's guide again). and when i checked to see in the nvidia control panel>performance>view system information and on the "geforce video" it says its "167.46". did something go wrong when i updated my driver?

also, i just ran 3dmark06 and i got a score of 7368 running a stock CPU.how does that par with other benchies?

    ur 3dmark is good
but the driver should show 177.41
go control panel \program and features \
type nvidia in the search and uninstall every thing
run driver sweeper and follow the guide again

Yeah the 177.41 driver has not been installed. Did you read the important note bit at the bottom of my guide?

Yeah, I just noticed the same thing on mine and I did follow the guide to the letter using driver sweeper a couple of times just to make sure. I guess I must have missed something :(

Did you both either edit the modified inf or use the GTX workaround as described in the important note section of my guide?

Uninstalling the original driver is important. The old school way of confirming is restart and does it fire up with the Windows default resolution? If so you should be good to go. Install new and all should be good.

Thats the method i usually follow when installing new drivers. If I ever encounter issues, then i go the cleaner programs route.

For some reason it won't let me uninstall the old drivers all the way and it crashes Driver Cleaner every time I run it. Not sure what else I do. Seems it reverts to an older version every time I try and install the new drivers.
Yes I tried to install it as the 8800GTX but it wont let me do that either.
I am downloading the driver again and the inf file and see if it will install over the old driver.

Have you tried disabling UAC before you run Driver Sweeper?

if all fail uninstall all nvidia stuff
boot into safe mode, go to device manager and uninstall the nvidia 8800gts (right click /uninstall)
after that run driver sweeper (still in safe mode)
then boot normaly and install using the have disk method

I finally was able to uninstall the Nvidia drivers in Safe Mode and successfully used Driver Sweeper in Safe mode as well. I reinstalled the drivers using the Have disk method. In the Performance info section of Windows Vista 64 I am still getting this: Display adapter driver version 6.0.6001.18000
However in the Nvidia Control Panel it does show this: GeForce video 177.41 (7.15.11.7741)
So did the drivers install correctly or what's going on? I also can't get the Geforce PysX driver to work. It just shows blank and can't be selected.
    Any more suggestions?

yup mine shows the same as well.had to "clean" with driver sweeper twice just to clean everything up. i dont think the psyx driver works with our 8800gts though

the physx doesnt work on vista & G92M.

as to the WEI forget it, mine has the same.
go to device manager click on your 8800gts
press driver details and go through the versions of the files, you will find bothing that starts with 6.

the only mention of that 6.0.6001 driver i could find is that if you look into the details tab on your 8800gts properties the chose " rollback Driver Node Strong Name"

if you look under "Driver assembly version" you will get 7.15.11.7741

i think that's enough evidence but you can run the ntune sys info and run gpuz / everest they all say same thing.

same thing happend to me in the very begining. till i started reading up on what the settings did. but your on the right track. the easy way is to just set it to performance first and then look at what it uses for performance settings. then just keep playing with it till you get the hang of it. these settings are what make or break your computers performance.
