Looks like we posted at the same time. Looks like they raised the price $50 since it's so popular. It's not selling out quite as fast as last time.
-
A 1440x900 on a 17 incher? That's comparable to a 1280x800 on a 15.4 incher. But this is a good deal, so I guess that can be overlooked.
-
You have around a 1 in 3 chance of getting a 1920 x 1200 screen.
-
I am buying it right now! Dang, wish it was still $699..
-
how fast did they run out last time? A few days, a week???? I want to know how much time i have left
-
More like a few hours... don't hesitate like I did. It'll come out in a few weeks @ $800 lol. You might get lucky if it lasts a day, but again take advantage of the deal if you're willing to take the risk.
Gateway FX P7805u!!!! -
is there that much of a risk if its under there 30 days return policy
-
Got mine. Here's hoping it's the 1920x1200.
-
Thanks! -
They can not be returned for refund.
-
Hey I aim considering buying this laptop, its either this laptop or the asus g50vt-x5, the only problem is how reliable this laptop is. Is this laptop as it is being refurbished reliable?
-
-
I ordered mine today about 2pm and it said the ETA was tomorrow!
(12th)
Not sure if that's going to hold up, but I'm hoping to get it by the end of the week anyways. I don't care which screen it is, I'm rocking WSXGA+ (1680x1050) in my 15.4" Dell right now, 1440x900 will probably be easier on my eyes. -
-
Going...going...gone! No longer available.
-
I hope it is too, I'd hate to have to wait for them to get another shipment in order to get a good one. -
I'm tempted
.
-
-
Yep its gone right now.. they may toss it up again later tonight or tomorrow. I thought they were supposed to come out on the 13/16th.
-
-
Yea, always teasing us customers. I practically freaked out this morning when I saw it up for sale. I ended up ditching one of my classes just to ensure that I'd get the laptop.
-
i'm willing to buy one from anyone of you guys for 800$ as a favour for a fellow gamer pleaaaaase i've been dying to get one and them they ran out. And i can't wait for a couple of weeks cause i'll be on vacation them with the family
-
wow I've been saving up to get one of these for so long but its kind of hard when i have school, car, and rent payments to make and when i finally see a deal like this there sold out... can anyone please tell me when there suppost to restock or if they even do again?..
-
-
When I did that, the guy told me the 13th, which is tomorrow. However... I simply kept the page open and refreshed it once or twice a day until I saw it in stock, and then bought it immediately. -
Yep that's exactly what I had been doing. I was fortunate enough to see a thread that they had put the laptop back up yesterday morning, and I purchased it as fast as I could. The laptop was shipped from their warehouse 5 hours ago, so I'm expecting it by Friday. I'll let you know how it goes.
-
According to UPS, I'll have mine Thursday. Why it takes 3 days to get from IL to MI I'll never know.
When I ship a box to IL, it's there within two days, sometimes one. -
Wuxga!!!!!
-
when will the next shipment be?
-
Got mine a couple days ago! Hoping its the better screen!
-
Give them a call and ask, that's what I did.
The guy was really nice, and had no problem telling me when he thought they were getting another shipment. He was only off by a day or so.
Though like I've said before, I always had a TigerDirect tab open and I was refreshing it once or more per day. -
Any chances they get new stock?
-
I would assume they will. The 6860 model was sold on and off for about 8 months. Then they had the 7811 in stock about every 3-4 weeks (although it usually sold out within hours) from fall until spring. The 7805 has been in stock twice in the last couple weeks, and it took a couple days to sell out this last time (which is forever compared to the other two models, so I'd say the demand is slowing down somewhat). I'd bookmark the page on TD and check it whenever you're near a computer (that's how I got my refurbed 7811).
-
Mine is in the mail. I'm excited. I was surprised how quick these things disappeared. I was going to wait to sell my current laptop before I bought a new one, but I'm glad I ordered that when I did.

The Dell Studio XPS 17" WUXGA screen is not only better but you can get LED back light option.
I've had 3 different P-7811FX back then, I found all of them had cloudiness at certain angle, pixel wise it's very grainy and the glossy coating doesn't help hide that fact.
In most games, I find the 9800M GTS has problems maintaining smooth gaming at that resolution and often it's terrible to game at that res on a tiny 17" monitor, switching is to 1440x900 results in blurry graphics.
For those people that need it for graphics work, you should know it's a TN panel not a IPS, color production is not great.
I sold my P-7811FX and now I'm not the P-7805u with the 1440x900 screen, I think it's the best LCD they have so far. It is very uniform in brightness unlike the WUXGA which has some darkened areas.
This is my opinion of course comparing past FX screens. -
-
Yes, the 7805u is a "Best Buy exclusive".
However, this makes me wonder -
Tigerdirect keeps having refurbished 7805u's, but where are the refurbished 7801u's?
Shouldn't there be some of them floating around? -

Absolute rubbish. I have the the LG WUXGA, LG WXGA+, AUO WUXGA and AUO WXGA+ screens here and in my opinion the WXGA+ screens are much better than the WUXGA screens. Much improved viewing angles and much more suited to gaming which is what all these laptops are about. Regarding "the best display there is for laptops right now" these screens are nowhere near the best. Try RGBLED screens for a start. Also Phillips and LG are the same.
I've never seen a post which so much duff info. -
I ordered mine today. I think I got the last one too because I checked about 10 minutes after I ordered and they were all sold out. Can't wait for it!
-
-
I decided not to buy it, as I live in Europe, and, if for some reason, the notebook breaks down, I'm screwed. Big time. Oh well.
-
If you are going to be watching lots of Full HD 1920 x 1080 movies and sitting very close to the laptop then you will notice the difference with a higher resolution WUXGA screen. The black levels on both of the WUXGA screens however are not good especially if you are slightly off the optimum viewing angle. The WXGA+ panels are much better in this respect.
-
I am talking for myself when I say the WUXGA is the best, because I love watching Bluray movies in full HD and I use the HDMI a lot to watch those movies on my 40' HDTV. I know there are better screens out there for sure, but I have a budget to deal with, like most people.
-
If you take a Bluray HiDef video and play it on a 17" screen, it won't be noticeable at all between WUXGA and WXGA+.
The same thing with printing a 12mpixel image to a 3x7 photo paper, the 3mpixel image looks just as good on 3x7 paper.
Anybody who's into home theatre knows that 1080p only starts to make an impact when sitting at a certain distance with a screen larger than 42"
With that said, the WXGA+ screen Gateway has sourced recently is much better than the WUXGA screens. I've gamed on my bed in the dark, amazingly the black levels are perfect, I could see objects much better than my previous P7811FX which has the WUXGA LCD. -
Quote: Anybody who's into home theatre knows that 1080p only starts to make an impact when sitting at a certain distance with a screen larger than 42"
If by a certain distance you mean not attached to the TV screen I agree. Otherwise there is definitely a difference in quality between 720p and 1080p even up close. I even play my games on the HDTV @ 1920x1080 res and everything looks much sharper than at lower resolutions. -
-
Why don't you get an external monitor for movies and such? I'm on a 6860 and used to have a 7811, and I have to say the AUO 1900x1200 screen was much better than the 6860's for color quality and sharpness, but too small for use - even playing movies on it, everything was too small. So after I sold the 7811, I just bought a 25.5 external monitor for 300 bucks (their 24" are 219 on sale on Newegg btw), plugged it into my 6860, and I'm totally happy. I use the lappy screen when I'm traveling and the big screen at home, and it's all good.
tigerdirect again selling Gateway P-7805u FX$749.99
