i have a gateway MT3707 thats about 6 years old, the screen is COMPLETELY TOAST. it has a password prompt on start up. tried plugging in an external display and i got nothing. i found a site that sells screens and before i buy one for 80$ i just wanted to make sure that swapping the screen is as easy as my mechanical brain thinks it is. 6 screws and a plug? got it. i dont wanna buy a screen for it, plug it in and theres some sort of blue screen that pops up and says "this laptop is FUBAR and you are SOL. good luck with your new screen that plugs into a dud laptop."

if you help, ill paypal you $10 or something. or send you a 6 pack. either way. either way is fine. i just dont trust those nerds at geek squad who penetrate your computer with a thumb drive and it of all it contents.

Check return policies if you purchase a screen, I would :)

As for password well that is a tough one, I would do a clean install but if you need to backup some files then use an ubuntu live cd (I'm sure there are tons of alternatives though)

What does the screen have to do with a password prompt at start? Sounded like you need to send it in for services.

    cheers ...
